Bought four years ago, still sharp
I bought this from Amazon in 2017, and they are still sharp and still doing the job with ease. It's a nail clipper: I don't understand what other people were expecting. They are compact and very lightweight. However, when I do carry them in my pocket, I slip them into the provided leather case. One minor "issue:" They are not that easy to open. The spring is such that, it requires some minor skill and one good fingernail to open it. Hard to explain, but the construction is such as to make this tight when collapsed. It's therefore very thin. I was more concerned that they would be slippery, but they aren't. Four years and I haven't used the nail file. As with all nail clippers for us lay people, the file is about an inch long, and while it files, I would only use it for a jagged edge on a nail.Anyway, without hesitation, I would buy these again. They have already outlasted a number of clippers I've bought since 1955! Best I've ever owned.

Not Hamman, but fantastic Solingen clippers.
As mentioned in a previous review, the clipper I received was also labeled Eschenburg NOT Hammann (other reviews imply that the product received might have been Asian rather than German). Eschenburg appears to be a different Solingen, Germany manufacturer than Hammann. Having said that, I have owned (and lost..) more than four different manufacturers versions of this design over the last 20 years and this is the best clipper yet. I know exactly what people are talking about when describing cheaper versions that aren't aligned and don't cut cleanly; been there, done that. My experience with these clippers is that they are very sharp, the alignment is perfect and the workmanship is great. I'm extremely pleased and would order again hoping to receive the same product, I only wish it came with a leather sheath.

Save your money and buy the Zwilling clippers
These nail clippers aren't worth $3, let alone $30. I've been looking for a pair of Hoffritz clippers for a long time, and they just aren't available anymore. These clippers are made on the same French design, but they have nowhere near the fit of the Hoffritz clippers and have very gross tolerances. I've included pics of two of these that I have purchased (and am returning). They are both made by Eschenburg. They may be manufactured in Germany, but that doesn't mean they aren't junk. The mandibles don't line up. The springs don't have the same tension between the two clippers. They aren't even as good as a cheap $1 pair of clippers from your local corner drug store. One was purchased from Zamberg, and the other was purchased from Alrossa. If you are looking for good clippers I'd suggest these: Zwilling J.A. Henckels Ultra-Slim Nail Clipper The tolerances on the Zwilling clippers are much finer, as you can see in the pictures. They are made in China, and the case is made in India. And they are hands down the better clipper. The French design does have some benefits, such as a a file that goes all the way to the edge of the metal, and the fingernail cleaner pick is a nice addition. The Zwilling doesn't have a fingernail cleaner pick, and the file doesn't go all the way to the edges. But it does clip nails perfectly, which is the whole point.

Why spend $3 on nail clippers when you can spend 10x as much?
I look at it like this, I spend way more money on an ordinary thing thats really cool and different so I actually care if I know where it is and dont lose it. If I bought a $3 pair of nail clippers, I might as well get 5 and leave them in every room of the house. This one though? I could be quizzed any time by anyone and I could tell them its location within 1 foot of accuracy. Secondly, there's nothing like it. Nobody makes nail clippers that fold this flat. Its simply cool. How often is it that you find a really neat version of a very common thing, where you could walk up to someone, show it to them and they'd go... "Hey thats neat".If you're even reading this right now, all of this describes you. I dont make any money writing this, so just get it.
