It's thin making it lightweight, which is nice when it's hot outside. I love the carrying case because it fits well in my small backpack that I use on a daily basis when I go to work. I'm loving the style and my wife says it looks good on me. So why 4 stars? If you're old enough to remember how "easy" it was to correctly fold a driving map, then you'll "appreciate" folding this so that it fits into the carrying case. Yes, it's a challenge at first. But just like map folding, once you get the hang of it, it's not that bad. The other issue is if you open it up to use as a spread to sit on the ground, I found it challenging to match up the velcro straps so it works like a poncho again.
