Ok, so I spent a lot of time searching for the perfect lamp. I mean how bright is 2000 lumens vs 1250 lumens? How many lumens do I need? I even found some kind of formula online that will determine how many lumens you need per square footage of a room.....All I know is when we have a power outage, it's dark inside and even darker outside. This item ships from Amazon and had free returns, so I took a chance and purchased it.This lamp is absolutely the best! It arrived in good condition, nothing damaged. It came with batteries installed, which I love. It's ready to go right out the gate. I can't speak as to the battery life. All I can say is that it they worked when I turned it on, and they still work. It takes 4 D batteries, so sooner or later you're going to have to purchase some on your own. What is remarkable, is that it has 5, count 'em, 5 different brightness levels. If I'm going to buy a lamp, I want it BRIGHT, but my sister likes it less bright. With this lamp everyone can find the brightness level that is just right for them. Take your time removing the battery compartment cover. You have to line it up just right to replace the cover.Now when we have a power outage, I can set it on the brightest level and set it down on the dining room table. It lights the living room and the dining room. That means I don't have to carry around a weak lighted lamp from room to room as I move around the house.Yes, after this purchase we had a power outage LOL. I was so giddy that I had this lamp. All my family members have one actually. Most recently, this lamp came in very handy.....So, animal control had to come to our house to pick up a stray dog. I grabbed my lamp and I took the officer to the back yard, where I left the dog. The officer did not even have a flashlight and it was about 8:00pm. It was dark out there. Of course, I had this lamp with me. Guess what? The dog was gone! I locked the gate, so I could not understand how he had gotten out. There was a space behind the garage, about 3 feet wide and about 15-20 feet long. I had never, ever gone back there before, not even in the daylight. Unfortunately, it was the only place left to check for the dog. I cranked the lamp up to the brightest setting, and headed into the pitch black corridor. I could see EVERYTHING. It was all bright as day! I kicked aside tennis balls, soccer balls, and stepped over empty water bottles. I made my way all the way to the end, looked to the right, and there was the dog!!! I turned down the brightness so not to hurt his eyes and went back the way I came.I handed the lamp to the officer and he used it to light his way. He was very impressed with the lamp and asked where I got it. I told him that I got it on Amazon. He had another stop after me, and I asked if he had a light of his own. When he said he didn't, I didn't hesitate to gift the lamp to him. I could spare it because after buying my first lamp, I was so impressed that I bought extra..Buy this lamp! Buy it for all your family members. Buy it as a gift for anyone. Buy it for emergencies, Buy it for camping......

This Lateran works so well it has 3 settings. Charge lady at least 6 hours. Light is very bright great for kids to use when camping. Very sturdy

I like the lamp but beware the lantern base is not waterproof by any means.

Very bright at highest setting. One less star because lantern is so lightweight, it must be held in place to depress on/off switch or it just slides away from you. A toggle switch might have been better.

The construction is well balanced and the lantern is accurately described. After removing the screw-on base and the clear plastic swatch over one of the batteries, it may take practice to line up the base perfectly flush with the horizontal to screw it back on. Still practice is part of any emergency drill. Pressing the switch lights it up at the brightest setting, and each press dims progressively to off.

Great little lantern, convenient levels of brightness, easy to transport, with top hook for hanging... so, why only 4 stars instead of 5? Because it is nearly impossible for some one with small hands (like me) or arthritic hands (like me) to open its bottom cover and access the batteries. A flat head screwdriver, a small hammer, and lots of patience helped to get the cover to slowly unwind and finally open, so as to remove the little plastic sheet that protected one of the batteries. Putting the cover back had its own challenges, for it must be screwed carefully, making sure all the threads align, or there won't be proper contact... All in all, an operation that should have taken 5 - 10 minutes at most, took me about 20 - 30. Well worth it, in the end, because, as I said, it really is a great little lantern, but boy, what a workout! So, get it if you need really bright lights, but make sure you have someone with big strong hands around!

Very flimsy toylike do not recommend. Received damaged Had to return and pay $36.90 postage I hope I get reimbursed for the damaged item which I have to wait a month for!
