For me, assembly was not as shown in the item's close-up photo
It's a beautiful chair and provided the height and support I needed. I did run into an issue, though. As said in another review, the instructions are minimal; just five or six short lines on a piece of paper. When I put the chair together as indicated by those instructions and by the photograph of the chair, the height would not go above 19".One reason I bought this chair is that my piano bench is only 19" high and felt too low.In the photo close-up, the four screw heads are on the outside of the chair and the decorative nuts are on the inside. The back of the seat would be stopped by the decorative nuts when I tried to raise the height above 19". (see the close-up photo of the screw assembly on the sides of the chair)Once I put the screws on the inside and nuts on the outside of the chair the height mechanism worked perfectly. I do not know if this would be true of all chairs, but it was true of mine. So in the end there were no problems and I love this chair!Edited 2/18/18: Upon reflection I neglected to mention a very important positive statement about the care taken to ensure I would receive this chair in excellent condition. The packaging of this item was a carefully thought-out process. Using materials I had never seen used as packing material before, I suspect the box could have fallen off a truck and not be harmed at all.Soft non-scratch material next to the chair itself. Layers of dense but thin slabs of white material with a foil-like substance on one side, and best of all, the sides, bottom, and top were protected by what looked like sheets of thin Masonite. I still haven't had the heart to get rid of any of it. One could build a small but functional vocal sound booth with that stuff!. Great job fellas :-)

Comfortable and sturdy
I was looking for a nice cello chair. This one is very comfortable and sturdy. Similar to the Jansen for half the price. It doesn’t fold for portability but I really want it for home. I’ve been using an adjustable piano bench so it’s nice to have a back to rest against between sets and to remind me not to hunch. I recommend this chair. Five stars.

PERFECT!
Solidly built, beautifully finished, setup was a breeze, and it fits the purpose to serve as a piano seat AND as an ordinary chair when I am not playing the piano. Since I live in a small studio apartment the dual use is of importance.I use the back rest sitting on the piano when learning or reading through new pieces; when I perform them I sit on the middle to front edge like pianists do with standard benches. The set up is very easy: You need a screwdriver (large flat or a Philips) and a 3/8 wrench (or adjustable wrench). Put the hinged backrest upright, fit the two brass plates in the notches lining up the holes, stick the bolts through the holes, (the nuts should go on the brass plate), and tighten. Ready to go! To change the height of the seat, the mechanism is at the back of the chair. Pull the safety latch to the left, press the lever plates together, adjust the seat, let go and push the safety latch back in. It is easier than it looks here in written.Since there are no cranks or hydraulic mechanisms a wear out is almost impossible. As noted the chair is extremely solid (and pretty heavy). So it should last for quite a time... I weigh 200 lbs, so far no problem.

Well made chair but uncomfortable. ……( TOTALLY AGREE WITH pjb)
I bought this chair in hopes it would help ease my back issues while teaching piano virtually for 4-5 at a stretch. Even with adjusting the chair …using a padded pillow…still standing at intervals this chair causes great pain for for hips…which causes a severe pain to run down my left leg. I am going to have to replace this very expensive chair. It is indeed well built…nice looking for the kind of chair it is but for me it is extremely uncomfortable.Wish I had not kept this most uncomfortable chair. I kept thinking it would soften up with time but that is not going to happen. Any ideas…any are greatly appreciated. Or…does anyone want to buy a piano chair?

Help for pianists with back issues
The chair is a welcome relief, and allows fork longer practice sessions. I find that a pillow to support the lumbar area helps even more. The chair was not difficult to assemble , though I had some trouble getting it to lock in place when it reached the desired height. Once locked, the chair feels wonderfully sturdy.I would suggest to the manufacturer that the chair could use wheels on the four legs to increase maneuverability . I did this myself and was pleased with the outcome. This is an obvious plus that a chair at this price should offer.Overall, this item is a welcome replacement for the piano bench for back pain sufferers.

Beautiful, well-made sturdy chair
Expensive but incredibly sturdy and well made. Very easy to assemble and adjusts easily. It's a beautiful chair. My wife uses it for a sewing chair.

A great solution for piano players with back issues
Be sure that your chair arrives with instructions. Mine did not and I had to call the company to find out exactly how the raising mechanism worked. They were most helpful. I like this chair and it supports my back well. The height is perfect for me playing on a keyboard and stand. A couple of areas had chips of paint that had come off but they are not too noticeable and can be corrected. The back is comfortable; I have added a small pillow to better support my lower back. This chair is priced well.

Squeak
The squeak is so disturbing. It kills the music.
