Do you need a plumber to install this? How do you install it?

I did not need a plumber to install this, which is not surprising since I also did I need a plumber to install my garbage disposal or the 55 gallon water heater in my basement.

So, is the diameter 3 1/8" or 3 1/2"? I see both answers, which doesn't make sense since there's not a size choice option.

It's 3 1/8. Both sizes will fit. I found a far better replacement at one of the large home supply stores.It a heavy plastic with multiple holes for water drainage. It acts the same as the Insinkerator, but is easy to clean,keeps the sound low, and will not break, or smell. Cost is around $4.00. I no longer use the Insinkerator.

will this work on my insinkerator #777ss-1 with out taking it apart?

This product is designed to simply pop into your garburetor in order to save you the trouble of taking apart your garburetor. After you cut off the existing rubber baffle in your garburetor with a sharp knife, simply push in this product and it should stay in. I have an old Sears Kenmore garburetor and this baffle worked fine. If the opening of your garburetor is 3 1/4'' to 3 5/16'', this baffle should work fine.
