This is not a text on Abstract Algebra
This is not a text on Abstract Algebra but more of a book on how to think about the topic. Written by an expert in her field of teaching and learning methods Alcock covers every angle of the learning experience. I really like this book as it makes no presumptions about an individuals expertise or otherwise in mathematics. Ideal for anyone wishing to advance their knowledge or to study the topic at University, the writer demonstrates a clear understanding of the problems that put students off in tackling abstract alegbra. I would recommend this book to anyone who intends to study abstract algebra before diving into any text books or courses. In keeping with the series of texts that she writes on Analysis and studying for a mathematics degree, this is a must read.

Extremely helpful introduction.
Read this to 'get' things that always seem to pop up in explanations of other maths topics.Excellent presentation flows from concept to concept, revisiting ideas just as I needed to recollect. Explanations always seemed to have exactly the right information present to contextualise the work they relied upon.Has already been useful.

Very useful
Nice coverage of some basic topics of abstract algebra. I used it whilst half way through an introductory abstract algebra module and it helped me to synthesise the information and consolidate my knowledge via a slightly different perspective. There is useful content on learning methodologies from the research of the author.
