Maggie the One-Eyed Peregrine Falcon: A True Story of Rescue and Rehabilitation (Wildlife Rescue Stories)

A Terrific Children's Book that Appeals to Readers of All Ages
This book is perfect for not only its target reading group but for anyone who has an interest in wildlife and the work done by a nonprofit wildlife hospital. It's filled with marvelous photographs to go with the story of a young Peregrine Falcon who runs into difficulty when learning to fly in a big city. She is transported to the Wildlife Center of Virginia, where she is evaluated and treated. Despite a major physical challenge, Maggie goes on to become a valued and content member of the Center's team, all of which demonstrates that one is not required to be flawless to be happy, greatly loved, or valued for performing an important job. Children will easily recognize this, and they and adults will find the book quite uplifting. As a supporter of the Wildlife Center of Virginia from its early days, I admit to being biased. However, if the author had not done the marvelous job she has of telling Maggie's story, I would have been among the first to publish a scathing review rather than highly recommending this book. It's well worth reading and would be an excellent gift, especially for elementary school libraries and children's hospitals and rehab facilities.

This children's book is awesome. The pictures through out the book are beautiful
I read this book for the first time just yestrday. I did know Maggie's story before I read the book , as she was already "star" who many watched hatch and later fledge, on the Richmond Falcon Cam. This children's book is awesome. The pictures through out the book are beautiful. And not only is the book inspirational; it also delivers a message that while hospitals can scary places (true of both people hospitals and wildlife hospitals) the people there are very nice and make you feel better and feel safe. My favorite message of this book is sometimes bad things happen, like when Maggie lost her eye, you still can do very important things and have special skills to teach the word . That is what happens to Maggie. She might only have one eye, but she has very important role in her life. And she may be different, but she sure is a beautiul bird!

Inspirational true story. Great for kids (and adults)!
Maggie the One-Eyed Peregrine Falcon is a wonderful book about a very young falcon who was injured on her first days flying on her own. Lucky Maggie was found and rehabilitated to become an educational bird. This is a lovely book that is easy to read and inspirational. Kids who face challenges can identify with this brave falcon who now teaches people all about falcons. This is not an illustrated book, but has real pictures showing the whole story of Maggie. I would recommend it to children who have special needs or who have a love of wildlife. It's a sweet book for adults who love wildlife too.

Favorite
This is my son’s favorite book. He reads it every day for months now. We lived in TX and just moved to VA and Maggie lives 30 minutes away so we are hoping on planning a trip to see her. His three year old heart will be so happy.

What a lovely true story about the rescue & rehab of an injured falcon
I liked the steady, fact-based writing. I was thrilled with the photography.I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in wild animal rescue in general, and raptor rescue in particular.I chose this rating because the author wrote and illustrated this book with the steady, guiding assurance I believe is essential in a book of this type. Excellent resource and experience.

Kind educational transition after a peregring falcon is injored.
This is a thoughtfully written book, explaining both the life of peregrine falcons in large cities, and the good work done by raptor rehabilitation centers. It gently touches on the fears of Maggie, and her transition to a new life as an educator bird. Those scared feelings are explained calmly, which is reassuring to young children. The back of the book has an excellent synopsis of peregrine falcon facts and gives more detailed information useful in teaching about raptors like Maggie.
