To use it in your car, you would need an inverter that plugs into the cigarette lighter. On Amazon, a 75 watt inverter costs about $16 and in addition to an AC plug, most of them allow you to plug in USB to charge your cell phone etc. You would plug the inverter into your cigarette lighter and then plug the HotLogic Mini into the inverter. Since the inverter is rated at about twice the power requirement for the device, no problem. **Q: where is it made?** A: The plate itself is made in the USA. "Made in the USA" is molded on the bottom of the plate. I never realized how much a microwave dries out or toughens food. Being a fitness person who packs meals, my food sometimes is not that tasty, nuking it made it worse. With this, gently warming it makes the food taste way better. I recommend this big time. If you are a fitness person, this is a must have especially when traveling. When competing, you can warm your meals anywhere!!! Just an update, I found that you need to use storage containers that are wide, sort of matching the surface of the warming plate. I know this makes sense and most of you would already know this. I noticed this when using more narrow tall containers that I was using due to limitations of my lunch bag and it did not heat the food nearly as well. So if you make sure you use wide and longer containers like the one in the photo below, you will see this thing works amazingly.
