My new trailer had pins you dropped in and then have to push a R clip through. I always seemed to manage scrape a knuckle with those clips and then you have to lay them down somewhere and they always fall on the ground. That's why I love these latches. No parts to take off and lose, you just flip it up and pull it back to drop the gate and then push it back through and flip it down. The tab has a slight bend to it so when you push it down to lock it, it creates just a little tension. The parts are made very well and seem like they will hold up well. Mine are on a 6.5'x12' utility trailer with a full mesh ramp so it's not crazy heavy, but not light! I would buy these again in a heartbeat. You will need hardware to bolt them to the trailer. Tractor Supply has the best prices on stuff like that!

Arrived early and is impressive by its simple yet massive design. BUT, there are no suggestions, instructions or templates on how to mount it in the rear corner of a trailer, for instance. The alignment is absolutely critical and, to us average folks, it is not obvious. Once you drill holes you had better have properly aligned the plate that holds the lock with the lock plate or it’s too late. That no screws or bolts are included is understandable as this item is intended for an infinite number of applications. Disappointed. A simple template would yield five-stars.UPDATE: Fortunately there was room to drill another set of two holes for the lock arm and my project was saved. All could have been avoided with a simple template or drawing.
