Review: I was skeptical about the format of this book -- I love the classical period of economic history precisely because of the interrelationships among the thinkers (even if they were decades apart and in different tongues). But the very separation is the book's central strength. We get to dive into the life and mind of the men and women, and the connections are still teased out. Williams has an eye for detail and an eloquence of expression, that makes this book stand out. The story, the thinkers and the ideas come to life -- accessible to people new to the subject yet illuminating for those familiar with the topic. Classical economics finally has its worthy biographer -- a delight to read. Review: Apart from the content in the book,it is the printing & paper used etc.,which enhances the quality of the book

"The Classical School" by Callum Williams is a very thoughtful review of the evolution of Economics thinking. Subtitled: "The Birth of Economics in 20 Enlightened Lives" he reviews key thinkers including the famous (Smith, Marx, Mill) and others - some of whom I hadn't heard of. Those reviews are intelligent yet compassionate; the author tries to get at the key points of each persons's thought: the subtle differences that adds meaning to our understanding of Economic thinking. It's fascinating to see, in one book, the backing and forthing that characterizes human thought as it tries to develop an understanding of a non-obvious process. I highly recommend this book (and so did Economics magazine).

Many years ago I attended University courses on basic economics and government finance. I was not a gifted student. I wish that I had had such a book as this then. I tested myself to see how many exploded theories I might have believed in and came up with a distressingly long list. This book offers a clear amount of the classical theorist and their contributions. It is clearly and entertainingly written and I have profited from it.

Both entertaining and informative. Everyone should read this book.
