In the cooperative version kids are working together to get all their astronauts back to the ship before time runs out and the ship blasts off. Cooperative rules add a layer of social skills to the game (learning to communicate, cooperate and coordinate a common goal) that Sum Swamp can't offer. These games focus on single digit addition facts. A 9 year old should be working on multi digit addition and subtraction in addition to learning multiplication facts. Sum Swamp does both addition and subtraction, so it's a little more advanced.
