Q: Is the artifical grass washable/reusable?

I have washed the artificial grass in the sink/outside with the hose before. There are replacement grasses you can buy but mine seems to be fine if I wash the tray and grass for now.

Q: How often do you have to replace the grass pad? How long until it starts to smell?

It depends on the breed. I have a lab puppy who pees a lot, so the tray fills up fast. I haven't had to replace the grass pad yet, but if you do not empty out the pee in the tray, it doesn't take long to start smelling.

Q: My little dog's 14, mostly blind, deaf, arthritic, with little sense of smell. Will he be able to figure out what this is and get in and out of it OK?

It's hard to say, but I would think so since being deaf doesn't come into the picture for the ability to use it. It is low to the ground and with a dog's sense of smell being as keen as it is he/she should be able to smell it. Hope this helps.

Q: Can I use this outdoors on my deck in Minnesota winters ?

I have one on my deck now, but the low has only been 20 degrees so far. It is essentially plastic grass. I have a total of 3 of the units and have used them for 6 months and they are still like new. I discard any feces in the toilet and then tip the tray into grass outside and then I throw the grass portion in the wash machine on a gentle cycle and they come out fresh and ready. My puppy took to them immediately and was potty trained in no time. I highly recommend the product. I bought the large model for a cockapoo to give her room to turn and find just the right spot the way dogs do outside.
