Mama Mama/Papa Papa Flip Board Book Board book – March 25, 2003

This is the cutest book! I like that it includes Mama and Papa stories.

I love how this book highlights the parents' relationships with the children. (Although, for a non-traditional family, the roles might not fit your reality.) Papa bird teaches his babies to sing; papa beaver provides a home; papa baboon shares his wisdom; papa swan leads his family; papa wolf teaches his cub to howl at the moon (no comments on that father/son activity ~smirk~); papa seahorse fosters independence; and papa penguin gives warmth and safety. Mama lion hugs her cub; mama leopard breastfeeds; mama monkey gives a bath; mama koala carries baby; mama panda snuggles at night; mama elephant teaches; mama beaver... I'm honestly not sure what mama beaver does, but I have to say that her rhyme is my favorite of all. When I read the beaver rhyme, I can't help but hear some cheerleaders in the background chanting "Mama, Mama, you're so fine; you're so clever, you are mine! Mama! Yeah, go mama!"The text on each page is short enough that you should be able to get through with it before baby/toddler turns the page on you. The rhymes for the most part flow well and do a good job of highlighting normal activities in baby's life. Mama koala's rhyme, for example, is: "Mama, Mama, / Play with me, / Carry me, / So I can see." Short & sweet.The art is quite beautiful and portrays the animals with realistic details instead of the cartoonish drawings of some other children's books. Most of the pages use warm colors, and several of the animals have sweet expressions (like the panda baby's contented look snuggling with mama), and overall this book just seems to leave a warm and fuzzy feeling when looking at the pictures and reading it with baby.

This was my son‘s favorite book when he was little, the mama mama side. It was nice to find one that had both the mama mama and papa Papa together, I had never seen that before.

Been reading this book to the kids since they were really little to this day they still fight over it. I will continue to buy this book though they do love the mama mama part better. 🥰

Mama Mama has long been one of my daughter's favorite books. Since we had checked it out from the library multiple times, I decided to get her this double book as a present. While all three of my family agree that the Papa Papa story is not nearly as endearing as Mama Mama, it is still fun that you get two books in one. And the price was not much more than Mama Mama alone, so I thought it was worth it to buy this version.

Oh how we love this book! We had the Mama Mama book - a hand-me-down from my sister - but after having been through 3 or 4 kids it was looking rather worse for the wear. When I saw that this was a combo book I was really excited! It didn't disappoint. Both the Mama Mama and the Papa Papa stories are beautifully written and beautifully illustrated. For a while my toddler twins insisted we read it at least twice every.single.night. They love to point at the mama or the daddy on each page and demonstrate how the parent animal loves his/her baby. This would make a wonderful baby shower gift or gift for a child anywhere from 1 to 3 years old.

I bought this for my 14 month old son. Unlike his other books, which sometimes get him almost overly excited, this one has some (magical <smile>) calming effect. The text is just the right length, and has just the right rhythm and rhyme. He finds it soothing, sitting quietly, listening to the words and looking at the pictures. It's turned out to be a perfect bedtime book. And while there is really nothing distinguishing the mama animals from the papa animals, the pictures are really well done, and I love having the mama book and papa book all-in-one. A wonderful book all around for young listeners/readers, and parents too!

Bought this for my daughter. Lovely hard back book that she loves to flip through with myself or her dad. Nice short sentences that keeps her attention. Would buy again.
