I love the advice from James Scott Bell. I've taken his course and read his books and he always has great advice for authors. A short book but to the point. Recommended.

Even after writing 9 books this book helped me write my tenth. I wish I had it from the beginning of my writing career.

As is true for all JSB's books for writers, he covers the most important topics and dwells on the ones for which most writers of fiction have a need. Building unforgettable characters to populate your story is a high priority. Without them, the story fails. In these 24 chapters JSB delivers the high value, high protein meat and very little salad.Bon appetit.

The author gives great advice for creating believable characters in easy-to-understand definitions, along with wonderful examples. He offers assignments at the end of each chapter for putting these concepts to work for you. I have invested in several books on fiction writing and I relied on others' reviews, so I have to contribute the same for anyone else out there who is considering which of the many options to buy. This book does not disappoint! It's the kind you'll want to take notes from and re-read in sections.

James Scott Bell is an acknowledged writing coach extraordinaire and in this book he generously shares his knowledge. The book is full of great examples to help you process the information. I know I’ll be returning to it again and again.
