It was a 14-hour trip and we wanted to be sure the kids would have plenty of juice for their devices so there wouldn't be any complaining along the way. This charger was just what we needed. There are 2 USB ports and a 3-prong outlet which all work simultaneously without any apparent loss of efficiency. This charger worked so well that when we got back from our trip we bought another one to keep in my husband's car. Since then, we have used both of these units almost daily and they are still going strong. The 2.1A USB port in the first one we purchased stopped working about 6 months after we got it, which is kind of crappy (for that I did deduct one star), but the other 2 ports are still working just fine so we are okay with it. Not sure if it would stop on its own because I just unplug it out of fear that'll it explode or something (I don't really think that would happen but it's a weird discomforting noise for sure). When I plug it back in after driving a bit, there is no noise. I think it might only be an issue in the cold weather, but I'm just speculating because I haven't had it in the warmer months to determine whether that's the issue. Other than this minor issue, it performs as expected.
