That doesn't breed trust in a seller...** A: There are 10 strips in each bottle. It does say this "conspicuosly" on the product itself ... however, you are correct in that Amazon's write-up for the details of this product should include this fact. That being said, salinity is not something that needs to be re-checked (or verified) once or twice a week. These strips are for troubleshooting suspected problems with a cell (generator) ... in a normally operating system, this value (ppm) would be displayed in real time by the controller. A bad cell is sometimes troublesome to diagnose and pool owners sometimes will add massive amounts of salt to their pools not knowing that salinity is already high and the cell needs replacing. With a bad cell, there are 3 ways to verify salinity: 1)take a water sample to a pool store for testing (but remember, they have an agenda to sell you something), 2)buy an expensive digital meter ($200 or more) that will only be used when you suspect a problem, or 3)use these simple strips as a validation of the salinity of the water compared to what the chlorine generation system has measured. They have a limited shelf life (I believe 2 years) so 10 strips is probably an appropriate quantity. If the bottles contained say, 30 strips, you would probably throw away 28 of them when the shelf life expired. They were a big help to me when my cell went bad. **Q: My pool is too high in salt content, how do I lower it without having to drain the pool?** A: I think this happens to a lot of people while troubleshooting a bad cell. Unfortunately, dilution is the only way ... I know of no chemical method to decrease the salt ppm. You don't have to drain the entire pool though, just enough to dilute the water down to the target level. You probably could crunch some numbers for percentage of gallons/ppm or something to get an idea, but I would suggest just draining a good bit, say 10%, re-filling, and then circulate for 12 to 24 hrs before taking another reading. The joys of owning your own pool ... good luck. **Q: is this product different from the "white" test strips that take 3-4 minutes to read?** A: They are not instant.
