Papo Minotaur, multicolor

papoのファンタジー動物戦士シリーズを一通り買っています。 他の虎やワニと比べて造形がイマイチです。 まぁ写真で見ての通りですが。 その分値下がりはしてたので、コレクションをそろえるために 買ってよかったかな、という感じ。

A very attractive and well made figure. Beautifully detailed. It may be a bit spiky for the youngest kids- I wouldn't give it to one under school age- but its realism makes it great for dragon and dinosaur loving school age kids imaginative play, or teen/adult dragon collectors. I don't know how it would handle rough play, another reason for kids old enough to respect their things. Personally I like the size, not so big as to be awkward or small as to make the detail hard to see. It is pricey, but the nicer dinosaur and dragon figures always are, and I hope the talented sculptors are getting their share of it. It is less obviously a toy than the Schleich dragons- I like some of them and the Safari dragons, but this has raised the bar. I find it most comparable to the McFarlane dragons (though smaller yes). Sad that a 'kid's toy' as a much nicer figure than many of the adult collectible figurines out there.

I know this is intended for kids, but I've always had an admiration for the phoenix and the mythos behind it. I volunteer in behavioral health recovery, the phoenix is a good representation of the idea that even when we have reached what feels like our end, we can still be born anew from the fiery destruction and ashes of our former lives and that our mental health condition or substance use disorder does not have to define the whole of our existence. We can recover, we can be born anew. So I bought this for myself and have it on my computer desk for inspiration. It's a flexible plastic, but not so much that you can pose it, it has no articulation. The durability is high except for the head feathers, they'd probably tear off easily, but the painting and detail of artwork is a good 3.5 or 4 out of 5. Again it's clearly intended for preteen kids to actually play with and not the quality of a collector's statuary item you'd put in a case for display purposes.

Out of quite a few that 5yo owns from Papo, this one so far is his favorite. Each and every piece in the collection, be it a knight or an animal figurine, is well made and highly detailed.
