Electronic Drum Pad (KD-180L-BK)

Just wish the strike pad was a bit bigger for double bass work.

The KD-180L provides trigger stability, direct drive pedal compatibility and is compact enough to fit in my TD-27kv setup. Definitely a worthy upgrade from the KD-10 which wobbled when using a double-pedal and whose pedal mounting plate was not compatible with direct drive pedals. Finally, the KD-180L provided a distinctly improved overall playing experience over the KD-10.

I upgraded from a KD-85 to this KD-180l as part of a pad modernization push a couple years ago after a TD-27 purchase. I change the Evans double patch every 10-12 months or so. It's stable, feels nice, responds perfectly, and looks good. I was going to get the full-depth 18" or 20", but my kit's position against a wall made the shallow depth preferential. No issues with a DW 5000 or 3000 double bass pedal, just loosen the head and rotate it counter-clockwise a bit and it fits easily. Same as with any of the Roland VAD bass drums.

This pad has a different strike zone. It is a circular 'pad within a pad'. I have a double pedal, so I had to loosen the head and rotate counter- clockwise, to accommodate the second beater. Works okay now. Maybe next year's model will have a bigger strike zone.
