It is necessary to make sure the grease breaks down and doesn't sludge up the tank. It also keeps the smell down. I recommend using more than the dosage recommended on the bottle. I use about half a bottle when I go camping. It is cheap insurance and worthy preventative measure that can save you money in the long run on tank cleaning fees. It is super easy to use, pour it down the sink and add some water. It is very effective at keeping your tank clean.
