Jumping into intercourse before even explaining puberty and body changes makes no sense to me. I need him to understand the changes to his body and what he is experiencing before we tackle sharing his body with someone else. Im still trying to figure out how to present this material to him in my preferred order but I think as he develops, this book will be a valuable resource. As with any media platform there is a recommended age…10+. The parent needs to decide based on the level of maturity whether their child is ready to read it. This book was recommended by a medical professional as a resource. I read it and then asked my child (12 yo) to read it and then we discussed it. I also had my mature 10.5 yo read it. Children should be educated about their bodies and not have to ask uneducated friends questions they are uncomfortable asking adults. This book should also be a resource to prompt discussions. If you are conservative you can explain that you believe that a relationship is a man and a woman but that there are others who believe same sex relationships are acceptable and something that your child will encounter.
