George vs. George: The American Revolution as Seen from Two Sides [Schanzer, Rosalyn, Schanzer, Rosalyn] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. George vs. George: The American Revolution as Seen from Two Sides Review: My favorite American Revolution book for kids and beautifully illustrated - This is my favorite American Revolution book for kids. I got it for my 7 year old to read before our trip to D.C. This book has a perspective I have never seen in a kids history book. It has a British/King George point of view as compared to the American perspective. There are snapshots of important battles, key points, and is full of information I found interesting or was new to me. For example, there are pages of what ranks and what uniforms looked like on both sides, which is super interesting because we've always seen the "red coat" uniform, but this book had various other ranks and what their uniforms looked like- and this is from both the British and American side. My 7 year old will pick up this book on his own and go back to the illustrations that he likes. His favorites are the illustrations of British tax collectors getting tarred and feathered, and the Boston Massacre where one of the red coats is about to get hit in the head with a plank of wood. The illustrations are wonderfully detailed and I love the thought bubbles and quotes captured within the illustration. I also have a 5 and 2 year old, and this is pretty much over their heads (even though the 5 year old is really interested in the pictures), so I would base on my kids' experience that the best age for this book is around 7 to 12. I highly recommend and am thinking about getting a second copy since my kids are kind of rough on books. Review: This is a great book for the American Revolution! - This book is great! We are using it for our fourth grade homeschooling with our American Revolution unit. I am a judge a book by its cover girl and I was immediately drawn to this book! It gives an introduction to both George Washington and King George and then goes through several small chapters, 1. at first glance 2. a look at the life of King George and his countrymen, 3. a look at the life of George Washington and his countrymen, 4. how government worked in England 5. How government works in America, 6. The trouble with taxes, 7. The tempest over tea, 8. George versus George, 9. The shot heard round the world, 10. British forces, 11. Rebel forces, 12. A new nation, 13. The tides of war, 14. The final battle, 15. No kings for America 16. Whatever happened to King George the third 17. What did George Washington do next. Most of these little chapters are about 4 Pages long with half of each page being a picture so really easy for your child to read alone or for you to read out loud in little sections there is one section the tides of war that is several pages long without as much picture. The pictures are really bright and colorful and are fun to look at and my son enjoy those just as much as he enjoyed the reading of the actual book it gives a lot of information without being boring and kind of sums it up really well ! I would highly recommend this book for anyone talking about the American Revolution!!

Excellent history book for kids
As a homeschool mom, Iโm always looking for books that will teach my kids something and hold their attention. This book definitely hits the mark! My kids learned so much about the American Revolution and it did not feel like we were reading a textbook. Highly recommend!

A Real Gem Both Educational and Entertaining
This picture book provides an interesting look at the American struggle for independence. Its value lies in how it chronicles important events from the dual perspectives of the American colonists as well as the British, helping children to understand that the same historical event can be interpreted differently from different vantage points. It is of additional value because its illustrated format makes the Revolutionary War accessible to lower elementary students who typically prefer their text to be accompanied by drawings. (As a nice touch, the colorful illustrations are peppered with speech balloons containing real quotes from real people about the various events taking place on each page.) The text, while simple, appears well researched and the author nicely provides more studious readers with a bibliography and index.

Tells Both Sides. Great Illustrations! Good Overview.
Writing could have been better. Look at the pictures. Read the captions. Use it as a reference for the timeline of history, but maybe don't expect to read it all the way through as a story.

Packed with interesting information and wonderful illustrations
What an awesome book, I feel like this would supply even most adults with new information. I wanted a book to look at with my elementary age kids that highlighted our (American) revolutionary history while still showing the other side of the coin and I think this book does an excellent job of introducing the British point of view. My 4th grader has spent over an hour and a half with it these past few days, and I've been reading excerpts with my 2nd grader, but it's a bit too much for her to read on her own just yet. The illustrations are fabulous, it's fun for them to just look over the pictures and I'm fairly confident it will be a favorite for a long while

Excellent to teach different reading comprehension skills
I use this with my kiddos to teach cause and effect, point of view, chronological order, and compare and contrast. The pictures are fantastic, but it is a bit lengthy as to show both points of view. HIGHLY recommend this book!

Your kids will love this book. As a mom, I loved reading it myself. Great illustration, information. Fun & educational. Your kids will be encouraged to learn about history

This book is appalling and Amazon should remove the listing. It contains many racist references to Native Americans, glosses over slavery like it was just par for the course and does a pretty terrible job of representing this period of history. Made the mistake of giving it to my kid before pre-reading it, thought hey itโs written for kids by National Geographic, it should be fine. Nope. Awful. Returning it but seriously considered burning it instead.

I expected a book of a few hunderd pages for that price. This is not a book for adults. It is more like a comic book for children. If I had seen that it was like a thin comic book I would not have bought it. Number of pages, children's lierature, and illustrated like a comic should have been in its description. I think I wasted my money by buying it. For that price I could have bought two or three more worthwhile books about the same subject. I feel robbed. I was disappointed.
