I was excited to get this book, the term "Encyclopedia" inspired thoughts of being able to try and practice many new styles of music for this beginner on my a relatively new Weissenborn. My first disappointment was that the range of styles presented in the limited number of arrangements is NOT encyclopedic. Of the 9 pieces presented, 4 are Hawaiian, 2 are country/bluegrass, one is Hawaiian/ragtime, one is Hawaiian/tango, one is Hawaiian/bluesey/Chinese (i.e. pentatonic). Don't get me wrong, the pieces are pleasant, complete, and could be effective solo pieces in the hands of an advanced player (as a beginner, my second disappointment). The styles explored here number more than most books, but it is not an "encyclopedic" exploration by any stretch. The book does come with useful/instructive performance recordings, something many books unfortunately omit. Maybe I'll grow into appreciating the book more as I become a better player, but right now I am disappointed.

Encyclopedia?
At first, with only 9 instrumentals, it could be difficult to call it an encyclopedia. However, playing them gives you quite an extensive skill development..... so, in a sense, maybe it is. The 9 entries are very well done, and the book is worth the price.Beginners should work through a more elementary level before attempting this book.
