Helped my kids deal with their emotions
I read this to my kids almost daily when they were young. It's a great story about what you can do when you are angry, and not be destructive. They are grown adults now, but I definitely saw how this book influenced them as they became teenagers, and became "Sophies". I am so happy I found this book, it made my life just a little bit easier during those teen years. I bought another copy for my young niece and nephew, hopefully it will help them just as much as it helped my kids.

Colorful illustrations and toddler-friendly storyline were big hit
I got this out of the library for my 2 1/2 year old and had to order a copy last night as she already had me read it to her 5 times. I am not sure if it is the colorful illustrations or the toddler-friendly story line that grabbed her attention, but it was a big hit. I picked this book since my little one is in the terrible twos of temper tantrums. I wasn't sure how helpful this book would be, I was originally looking for something like "Calm Down Time" that would give her practical tips on ways to calm down when she is mad. The premise of this book is simple- young Sophie gets angry when her mother forces her to share her toy gorilla (any 2 year old can relate). The description of Sophie getting angry is well written and illustrated. When Sophie gets angry, she goes for a walk outside into nature and sits in a tree and calms down. The lovely pictures get calmer and cooler as the reader follows Sophie through the story. The only bad thing I can say about this book is that now my girl wants to go outside to cool off, which is just not possible in Winter or at night. We're working on finding an indoor place so she can be like Sophie.

Teaching mindfulness to kids
I am a parent and also a yoga teacher. I think this book very beautifully illustrates what anger may feel like, a volcano ready to explode! Sophie lets off steam by running... and crying... then she comes to her senses, seeing, hearing, feeling nature. "The wide world comforts her." "Sophie feels better now." She returns home to the warmth and familiar smells and sounds and sights of home. She is welcomed home. She is not her anger. This book really offers a way to open up dialogue about anger and other emotions. Kids can relate their feelings to colors, to things in nature. Mindfulness is about being aware of the present moment while you are in it. Coming to our senses brings us into the present moment. Mindfulness is a wonderful anger management tool, feeling the emotion in the body, focusing on the sensation rather than reacting from it. Teaching mindfulness allows for opportunities to respond rather than react. The thing to remember is that it is mindfulness PRACTICE!!! I think this book could help lessen tantrums, giving kids a sense of control over their anger. It is a chance to LEARN from anger. The illustrations are vibrant and engaging. My son is going on three, and he was definitely able to relate to Sophie. We just recently read this book together and I think it will serve us well! I highly recommend it!

Excellent story, helps little ones understand
This is a great book for anyone who needs reassurance and understanding regarding the sometimes violent and scary emotion of anger. My kids and I loved the story and the descriptions of the feeling and what Sophie does to feel better. It is non-judgmental and I really wish I had this book as a kid. I'm glad that my kids will know that other people feel this way and that it's okay to be angry (something that would have been very helpful for me when I was their age). The pictures are great too. Very colorful and expressive. Overall, a wonderful book.I did take one star away because of the manufacturing of the book. The publisher chose to use a type of paper that creases easily and when creased leaves a white mark. This really detracts from the beautiful illustrations.

Wonderful Children's Book
This was my daughter's favorite book when she was young, we read it so much that she literally destroyed the book; so when I saw it here I had to buy it. It's a great story on processing your emotions. It teaches children that it is okay to feel angry and sad but through the right outlet those feelings will go away and things will get better again.

Great Narrative Of Frustration For Preschoolers
Thank goodness for this book. I have a 3.5yo daughter who is an intense fireball. Our whole family has been struggling to both appreciate her emotions and to help her regulate them as is needed by gorwing humans. This book has been wonderful. We do live near woods, but more than copying Sophie exactly, this book helps us discuss how to take some space when needed and what sights/sounds/smells/activities help her "feel better," and what a successful recovery from a "red hot roar" can look like. It helps us explore the idea that grown-ups do have to enforce infuriating rules, that it's ok to be mad, and how to cope with that intense frustration. Thank goodness for this book. We read it a lot as part of recovery after and before a preschool outrage happens. :)

Young children can learn emotion and anger management
I bought this book for a storytime. This story can be related all children because when I read it this story, ultimately children became quiet. I always asked them to their response, I received a variety of thoughts. Sometimes they taught us how to deal with their anger. Thanks to this book, I'm glad to get know each child, feel very grateful to be an educator.

When Sophie Gets Angry
図画工作の時間に誉めらるような力強いタッチの絵です。おこりんぼうの4歳の我が子は、『怒り』を少し客観的に見れたようです。じっくり読もうと思います。
