I got these mostly for removing gel nail polish. I was using those flat cosmetic cotton pads , as I really like those for removing make up. But they are much too big for soaking nails in those soak off clip caps and I ended up having to cut them in 6ths. Then they don't hold enough remover to really work. I tried bigger cotton balls, but they were too big to fit in the clips and I ended up having to cut or pull them apart, which was a mess. These smaller cotton balls are perfect. They fit over my nail and hold a lot of remover. What I do is clip the dry cotton ball onto my nail (working with wet cotton balls is messy) then I use an dropper to squirt remover in there and wait. It is very clean and simple. I still sometimes will pull these in half for my smaller nails because I am a cheapskate! ha ha!! I even save the cotton from aspirin bottles for nails! these are cheap though for so many that I don't feel like I have to rip them or reuse a bigger one over and over. They are really a better size for me than the big ones. I sometimes feel that I am wasting so much of the bigger ones as I only use one part of them. Of course if you have a bigger job (I have even used paint thinner and wood stain with cotton balls) then you may like the bigger ones or even the cosmetic pads. But for small jobs where you just need a bit, but a Q-tip is too small, these are great. They are about the size of a quarter, but can be pulled out to about an inch and a half square and still not have holes (though they are pretty thin if you pull that far.) Right out of the bag, most are sort of are the same size and shape as a cap from a Crayola marker or a tator tot. (weird examples, I know!)

The size is just exactly right, not too fuzzy, hold fluids well and does not fall apart. The actual fiber size was small to medium which indicates that they are significantly smaller to the ones with larger cotton fibers. The only con was that after counting and checking three times I only received 1999 cotton balls. If you are reading this review for cotton balls you need to get a life. FOR CRIPES SAKE.... THESE A RE COTTON BALLS........

is what it says. but cheaper to just get cotton balls from ralph's. this bag weighs about 425g. so the cotton balls (which are actually quite small like other reviewers say) are probably about 400g. i weighed a bag of cotton balls from ralphs, 200 count, and much bigger size. it was about 115g, minus the bag. and at $2, makes them about $1.75 per 100g cotton balls. following the same calculation, these cotton balls are about $2.50 per 100g. so make your own conclusions. so i've been using these for over a year now. you get used to the small size. i stopped using 2-3 at a time, now just use 1 at a time. which means they are great value. unless you get bigger cotton balls and tediously break each of them down into smaller pieces so they go further. goes to show how useless customer reviews are!

Be gentle with these unless you don't mind it kind of falling loose. Keep in mind, they are small. But this was a huge bag, and will fulfill our purpose as emergency fire starter and in our 1st aid kits.

The cotton balls are smaller than the ones in the stores. They are perfect for my needs. There are plenty of them in the bag, so they last a long time.
