Steel Magnolias

You will laugh and definitely "ugly" cry when you see this movie. I've watched it many times over the years and have tried not to cry, it has never happened. Just have a box of tissues at the ready! This is a perfect girl's day movie. Amazing performances all around, but I have to give special props to Sally Field-astounding performance as Shelby's mom. By the time it's over, you'll want friends like these women, if you're not already blessed to have them in your life.

It's a traditional holiday watch for my whole family. Now it is a permanent home on my cloud server.

This film has probably the finest female cast of any Hollywood film,with all six on top form. It's a comfortable weepy. In other words the characters have so much money they can suffer in comfort. It's notable for a young Julia Roberts giving an early award winning performance which made her a star for evermore, but it's especially enjoyable for the performance of Shirley MacLaine, as the cantankerous love-starved curmudgeon with a heart of marshmallow. Nothing really nasty happens.Enjoy it.

I have seen this wonderful film so many times and love the way it portrays the child-mother bond and the complex relationships between women. I'm not a fan of Julia Roberts but in this film she really packs a punch as the young woman with diabetes trying to get as much out of her life as possible. Shirley Maclaine is a joy to watch as always - brilliantly acerbic with some great one-liners..."My he's such a gentleman, I bet he takes the dishes out of the sink before he pees in it!". Dolly Parton is stunning to look at and proves she can be a very sensitive actor.This film is to be explored and enjoyed so I wont describe any further so as not to spoil this journey....you'd have to be as hard as nails not to feel Sally Field's distress towards the end of the film, I have yet to see the end credits without tears streaming down my face. 'Life goes on'....

A Beautiful Film , funny , sad , true .Is it a just for Women? well the story is about woman , yet I défi anyone who watches this movie not to enjoy , be touched by it particularly special magic .Now considered a classic.Rare .

Rewatched this recently and thoroughly enjoyed it so bought it for my mummy for Christmas. This film is great and younger peeps should be made to watch it. Brilliant cast, brilliant acting and brilliant story. I live a film that tells a story and this film is a must watch!!

Definitely a girl's film, but one that will touch a lot of men too. The huge cast of charismatic acting aristocracy, gives it a true heritage & acounts for the longevity it enjoys. It takes you through a roller coaster of emotions from the banter of the Southern ladies who have been friends for years, to the heartbreak of a family devastated by their daughter's defective kidneys and the knock on effect to friends & the community in the deep South of America. Absolutely not to be missed & I have watched it at least 20 times and it still warms & pleases just as much.
