Trans-Siberian Handbook: The guide to the world's longest railway journey with 90 maps and guides to the rout, cities and towns in Russia, Mongolia & China [Thomas, Bryn] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Trans-Siberian Handbook: The guide to the world's longest railway journey with 90 maps and guides to the rout, cities and towns in Russia, Mongolia & China Review: Great guide, very useful! - My husband and I just came back from riding the Trans-Siberian from Moscow to Vladivostok, with a number of stops of course. It was a great trip, and this guide was very useful and complete, more than others we had. We recommend it despite the weight! Just one mistake we caught and want to mention: on page 255, Yekaterinburg, it says that the Metenkov House/photography museum is open on Monday from 10am to 6pm. Knowing that most museums in Russia are closed on Monday, we went there...but unfortunately found out that it was closed, only the bookstore was opened. But we enjoyed the walk through town to find it! Review: Literally the best travel guide I've ever purchased - This is the BEST Guide you can find for this trip. I took the Trans Siberian railway last summer and this book had way more information than any other guide we saw people carrying. I can confirm that every single thing that is said on the book is just like it is in reality when you are on the train, visiting cities and organizing the trip. Moreover, the historical information provided by the book helped us understand the political past of every country we went through (we took the trans-mongolian so we went through Russia, Mongolia and China) and the stories on how the railway was built and its initial purpose really helped us understand its historical context. Literally the best travel guide I've ever purchased. You won't regret buying it when you spend so many hours on the train!

Probably the best overall resource
Probably the best overall resource, but found it somewhat outdated on specifics hotel, dining, etc. recommendations, but that is to be expected.

Tsar's Gold Train Route
We are planning a trip on Tsar's Gold Train and needed information for the route. This book gives all the info you need to make that trip, either by tour or on your own. If you are going or trying to decide, I recommend this read. Enjoy!

Excellent service from seller, book not as good as critics say
Book was in excellent condition as described and arrived on time. As for the content, OK, but the book was not as informative as I ad expected. I found the Lonely Planet guide more useful.

You need this guidebook if taking this trip.
This is what you need if going on this trip. Yes reviews are online now, but this is pretty much indispensable for the section on things to see along the journey. I was surprised how few people had it. One guy had a useless old lonely planet. This book is 1000x better.

Invaluable reading for those undecided or preparing to take the train
Informative and helpful... I knew nothing about this trip that some friends were considering. This is definitely not the same experience as traveling by rail through Western Europe. This is much more complicated and you need to read this book/guide with that in mind.

Need a place to eat, stay, things to do, things to avoid, where to shop or how about a short history lesson in between stops? The Trans-Siberian Handbook will essentially cover you for all situations educational and practical. Upon first buying the book in March I deemed it fair to wait until I had completed my Trans-Sib journey in September before posting a review. In the cold of Siberia my phone battery would often die, leaving me with only the city map in the handbook as a guide. Not to worry, all major streets and landmarks are covered and old fashioned map work wasn't a problem at all and it handily provided locations of coffee shops and areas to access internet if necessary. Links to hostels and guides are thorough, and the book is updated seemingly fairly regularly with new information. All in all, I would whole-heartedly recommend any trip not be made without.

The book is well researched. The history of the transiberian train and the places along the route adds value to the book.
