VOC's are removed in the distilling process. **Q: So you have to perfectly align the spigot with the lip of the pitcher? Meaning if a roommate disturbs it, there's a gallon of hot water spewing?** A: The alignment doesn't have to be perfect, but reasonably close. If you or your roommate do not get it properly aligned, you could end up with as much as a gallon of warm water on the floor/counter/wherever you place it to run, but that will be over the course of 4 hours, so if you check on it occasionally, you will be able to notice the problem and fix it before it gets too out-of-hand. **Q: Is the water coming out of the filter supposed to be very hot** A: I have found that the water comes out at room temperature. We drink some immediately and it is a nice temperature . I don’t like warm water. My old waterwise left the collection container warm. So the newer condensing coil really cools it. I am very happy. **Q: My unit has scale all the way up to the fill line. I'd like to try vinegar an alternative to descaler. How exactly does one use vinegar to clean it?** A: I've used distillers for years and found the cheapest and best way to clean it is by using Citric Acid. You can buy a hugh bag of citric acid here... https://www.amazon.com/Milliard-Citric-Acid-Pound-VERIFIED/dp/B00EYFKKZC/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=citric+acid&sr=8-7 that lasts 10-20 yrs. Just throw a teaspoon into distiller with water and let sit overnight or as opposed to sitting overnight, turn the distiller on to boil the water and it should be clean in about 15-30 minutes.
