If it's an inside compartment it should be ok. On the outside I probably wouldn't use it. **Q: What size are the terminals on this outlet?** A: Standard sized spade. **Q: can this product be switched out for standard cigarette lighter. Can it hook up to the original leads?** A: So what i found is this is slightly larger diameter to fit in my cigarette lighter slot so modifications had to be made. ( just cut the hole slightly larger with a dremmel.) Also the terminals on the back of this are both vertical. On my truck and other vehicles I know the terminals on the back of the lighter/ 12v plug receptical are offset. (One vertical and one horizontal.) So with that a few modifications had to be made as well. ( you can cut the wires that come with it and crimp on a male plug to the other end so you can turn it to slide in whichever way you need.) Other than that it wasn't hard to do these things but also not a simple pull and replace. At least not in my chevy. But now it works well and looks good.
