Typical "Dummies" - which means excellent.
I buy Dummies books like milk. I am never disappointed, and they don't get sour.

Disappointed By The Authors
When one of the authors stated "the goal in Jazz is to create a new interpretation of an established piece or to build on an established piece of music by changing the melody, harmonies, or even the time signature", They don't even know what jazz is! Since when was Jazz just standards or derivative of standards. Duke Ellington and others were composing original Jazz before the birth of these authors.I knew they may have skills in some ways and completely ignorant in some others. You can't teach if you don't have good information to start withTheir introduction of DAWs mentions Logic Pro, Cubase, Ableton Live, and ProTools. What happened to Studio One, Reason, and Bitwig? DAWs are called "composition software"All of this was scanning the book for less than 10 minutes. With this book, you have spit out the seeds of poor music education. There's some good information and some less than good information in the book. Maybe the Authors should spend a little time watch Ken Burn's series on Jazz for a more valuable background on what is and isn't Jazz.

Nice content, horrible paper.
Good book, but printed on cheap pocket-book-style paper. I expected more for a $30 product. The Kindle version might be a better choice for your money.

Great background information
It does what the title suggests, but the topic is covered in a broad way beyond a dry music theory book. Haven’t done the exercises yet, as this requires real thought and dedication!I would suggest what I am doing, that is, read through once, then again slowly following all the exercises.I reckon there is a year’s worth of study here, and I hope to leave the book a better composer with original, quality material.

Write a song even your family will like
I have studied a lot of music composition books since I first started learning guitar about 1972. Finally, a single book that puts it all together in one place. Loved it. I can write lyrics (although I bought a lyric writing book from Amazon) and I can create good chord progressions, but my melodies have been, let's be polite and say not Top 40 material. I am a lot more confident now having bought this book.
