Eternelle

Meh.
The case arrived cracked and scuffed (which is okay) but it didn't play in either my home stereo nor the car stereo. The cd itself doesn't appear to be scratched at all and it costs more to return than it did to order.

Terrific Piaf songs
Edith Piaf's voice is like a fine liqueur, if you are unfamiliar with it, you may have to acquire a taste for it. She can be perceived as strident and shrill by those not knowing about her, but to fans like myself, she sings beautifully and with heartfelt emotion. Most of her classics are on this CD, including "La Vie en Rose" and "Milord," and to this day her songs are played, for example on the Brazilian soap opera "Insensato Coracao" which is on TV now. I feel a connection to Piaf as she and I are birthday twins (Dec. 19, different year) and I feel so blessed to have avoided extreme suffering as she did in her life, and which comes out in her songs ala Judy Garland's. Listen to this CD with a loved one and a nice bottle of wine, or romantic dinner, to be transported to Paris in spirit.

An Introduction (or good review) to Piaf
This collection of Music by France's premier chanteusse is a wonderful representation of her life, musically speaking. Many classic songs are included and some other ones that I have never heard (but with a little research discovered that they were other greatest hits in Europe). HIghly recommend if you just want a good sampling of Edith Piaf's songs. I bought it for my husband who loves music of this era and yet, had never heard an Edith Paif song. He loves it and is starting to drive me crazy by playing nothing else.Keep in mind, that all songs are in French and there are no lyrics included. So a little knowledge of French or a lot of appreciation of the language might be required.

Sad life but truly wonderful voice
Great renditions -- very soulful, rich voice -- heart-warming and moving -- very clear recordings. Makes me want to get the lyrics and sing along. Makes you feel like you're in Paris -- for less than $10. Edith Piaf was a bit before our time (we're leading edge boomers), but as long-time Francophiles we went to Amazon the day after watching "La Vie en Rose" to buy the sound-track. After reading the reviews, we decided to get "Eternelle" instead. We are very pleased with it! The Repeat button on the CD player gets a lot of use on this album.

Sad Story
This is a wonderful album if you like Edith and the "old time" sound of France. Do youself a favor and also rent/by the DVD about her life. It is a fascinating story that I knew little about. She had a tough life. Both the DVD and album are wonderful. Makes you feel like you are sitting at a cafe in Paris expecting the Nazi's to rumble by any minute. (The CD NOR the DVD touch on that subject at all...but those were the times and she was there....

You'll love this CD!
I was introduced to Edith Piaf's music through the biopic on her life, La Vie En Rose. Not long after, I bought this CD, and I play it almost every day. Her singing is so infectious and full of feeling, it makes me smile just to hear it. I may not be able to sing along (one day!), but I love it. The selections range from jubilant, to contemplative, to amusing, to sorrowful. Every song is outstanding. Buy this CD -- you won't be sorry.

Sensations of Paris
This was a gift for a friend who was supposed to go to Paris for her 50th but her hubby got sick. So I didn't listen tothis particular CD as I gave it away. But I have others of Edith which is why I bought this one. For me, it is good music for cocktail hour with a glass of wine or pastice, and a self-projection over to a French cafe -

Rare Beauty
The beauty and power of Edith Piaf is very well represented in this CD. Her voice and delivery of song is unique, and unmistakable. She defined a long period of french music, and reflected so much of the spirit of the times between the World Wars.I listen to this over and over as I work on my play "Chanson", about her life and that of Jacques Brel. It is an inspiration
