This product is designed to hold an 8.5x11 (Letter Size) pad, commonly called a a "legal pad" with a chipboard backing piece inserts into the back cover of the notebook. The only way a spiral notebook would work properly would be if the spirals were on the top (ie. 8.5") side and it had a chipboard backer to insert, also the spiral would need to be no bigger than appx. 1/2". Bottom line, it's really not designed to hold a spiral bound notebook, but if it's the correct size and orientation it could potentially work. **Q: Will A4 size paper fit in it?** A: No. The inside height is only 11.7" from edge to edge and won't give enough room for paper with height of 11.69". **Q: I want to purchase one in brown but the images are mixed up- the option for brown brings up the picture for the black version..** A: There is a temporary issue with the images in the listings which should be corrected shortly. Disregard images at the moment, the wording is correct so if you are on the product that shows Brown in the title, you should receive the Brown product. **Q: Would this fit a stenographer pad?** A: Good question - a 5" by 8" steno pad will fit in the portfolio, but it's a very (very!) tight fit in the slot made for the pad. I like the design, but I'm sure if the pad insert feature will stand the test of time.
