Hi Shannon, You can use this while cooking to season your food, but you will get the most nutrition from the product if you season your food once it's prepared (like putting salt on just before you eat a meal). The best news about this seasoning is that you get 250% of the RDI for iodine per 1/4 teaspoon, and it tastes great! Many other people who use this seasoning like it on protein (chicken, tofu, eggs, etc), salads, and even rice or pasta dishes. Q: Is the salt grinder refillable?

Yes, it is refillable. However, this is not your typical grinder for table salts. Due to these crystals being larger than regular table salt crystals, the grinder holes are larger. You would not want to refill these using table salt unless you want your food immersed in a very heavy salt taste. I’ve ordered the Celtic Sea Salt refill bags for years and I like that it’s saving cost-saving.

Q: Why does this seasoning have a warning that may contain lead or cause cancer?

You can thank California's Proposition 65 for that. Lots of products that have minute traces of ingredients that would never cause cancer in the amounts in the product, are forced to put this label because the ingredient was place on the list of “carcinogens”. For example, one ingredient on their listis a compound found in carrots, hops, lemongrass and cannabis. But because it had been linked to cancerous renal tumors in male rats that were force-fed large quantities of it, five days a week, for up to two years - it earned a place on the Proposition 65 list in 2015. The proposition, while well intentioned, is harming a lot of natural products.
