The build quality is solid & I love the color screen that is easy to read & let's you know what is normal/borderline/high based on color, but there has been 1 major & consistent flaw. This item claims to deliver an accurate temperature in as little as 8 seconds. I have tried on NUMEROUS occasions to get an accurate temperature on my son using the rectal temperature as this is the most consistently accurate temperature method for newborns. This thermometer is NOT 8 seconds. I have waited over 30 seconds, & this thing is still reading. I have reviewed the instructions, googled information on this product, & have seen a NUMBER of issues with the consistency of these quick read thermometers. Every now & then, the product works as expected, but there has been no consistency with this product. However, if I have the time & patience, the thermometer gives an accurate temperature, but I often wait up to a minute or must restart the thermometer in order for the thermometer to complete it's reading/cycle. I would save my money & get a better product, & I often use my Braun forehead thermometer. If that reading is high or borderline, then I will use this rectal thermometer to verify. It has ONE job, which is give me an accurate temp reading on my Baby with the quickness. But it confuses speed with quality, so it’s consistently LOW. Cross referenced with other thermometers that take longer to get the reading, this thermometer is off by 1.5 - 2 degrees. When you’re hovering around 100 degrees, that’s a HUGE difference.
