Sony SRS-RA3000 - Home wireless speaker with room-filling sound - Compatible with Alexa (Black)

Purchased to connect via Bluetooth to my PC, works like a dream and sound quality is excellent. It is quite a large unit and fairly heavy for its size, but needed to give the depth and richness of sound that it generates. A very worthwhile investment to listen to music and a vast improvement on my previous experience.

I like this speaker, but it's for my very specific use case - it might not be for you. I wanted a Bluetooth speaker to use with my laptop in my living room, and this is great for that. There aren't actually many mid-price Bluetooth speakers designed for room-filling sound, and this fitted the bill. It looks smart, is reassuringly heavy, and build quality is excellent. A word of warning, the Immersive sound mode - which is on by default - sounds awful and seperates the sound in a really odd way. I do wonder if other reviewers who were not so enamoured of the sound quality left it on. Anyway, one button press gets rid of it and then you have a really decent sounding speaker. It was slightly finicky to pair the Bluetooth the first time, which is slightly troubling, but it has been rock solid ever since. Others have noted that the Smart functionality is hit and miss, but I am not really using that - it is technically setup on my Google Home network, but for me the key functionality is Bluetooth. I have no interest in the 360 sound function, as I don't subscribe to anything which uses it. Final thing of course, is the price. £300 is way too expensive for this speaker. At the time of writing, the price seems to be yoyo-ing up and down on Amazon on an almost daily basis, with the dark and light coloured versions being different prices from each other as well. I got this for around £185 and for that price, I am very pleased with what I got for my money. If it's at or near full price, I really wouldn't recomend you buy it, wait for a good deal.

This speaker sounds less good than my Echo Studio. It's compatibility with Alexa is minimal, and Alexa cannot control it. However, it does have chromecast and handles streamed 360 format tracks well.

When I purchased, it was on offer and considerably lower than the original price, and for the price I paid it is brilliant. There is nothing better. The set up was all right. Would have been nice for USB Type-C power support, a more recent Bluetooth connection (it's 4.2), and NFC, but it's well made, covers a broad spectrum when set up further out of the box (the basic EQ setting is naff), I am hearing parts of music I've never heard before, so very pleased right now. Would have gone for black if in stock, but only silver was and to be fair, I'm very glad I did go for silver. It's discreet and stylish. The only real issue I have is that the sound over auxiliary is much quieter than Bluetooth, so if connected by the 3.5mm input you have to turn the volume all the way up, but then when switching back to Bluetooth, it's then way too loud. In short, well worth the price when around a third of the original selling price, but not worth it otherwise. Look elsewhere for more modern specs and great sound if paying a lot more.

If you are really into your music and appreciate deep rich sounds, as well as unbeatable volume levels, then this Sony SRS-RA3000 may just be the speaker for you! Having had this up and running for a few days now, I am in love... What I will say beforehand though is that I did have several issues connecting this with Alexa, which at times threatened to lower my opinion and of course overall star rating for this product. However, it is all now connected and working like a dream. • This is visually such a great-looking modern speaker and really does fit the room well. • The control panel located on top of the speaker itself is self-explanatory, simple to use and lights up when choosing each function. • This comes with a plug, rather than that of a USB which makes it hugely practical for simply plugging in and getting going. Also, the lead of this plug is long, allowing you to place the speaker up high on a shelf/bookshelf and run it down to the socket without any issues. • This speaker connects to your Bluetooth like a dream. It picked up my phone within seconds. • It plays from Spotify with no problems, issues, or lags. And, as this is my main music source and subscription, this is perfect. • The speaker offers an unprecedented level of sound (with a high-volume level that I doubt I’ll ever get to for fear of driving out our neighbours or even bursting my eardrums - but still it’s good to know how loud this can go if you really want it to!) • The deep bass is utter perfection. • The package, instructions, etc that come with this are comprehensive. But, there is one slight issue/niggle that I think is worth mentioning in the hope that it will help others and ensure you get the best from this speaker. This model is supposed to connect with Alexa effortlessly. However, that process for me personally was anything but effortless! As someone quite capable when it comes to tech and gadgets, even I had to give up and wait for my other half to then sit and take yet more time trying to link this to our Alexa. The issue is you can’t do it straight from the Alexa app. We finally discovered you have to go through mazes and end up working through google/chrome to do it the long way around. The Alexa App on my phone would not recognise the device whatsoever. Yet, by the end of the day, we finally got it sussed and successfully linked it and it does play well. Yet, this really could do with being looked at by Sony as I can see how off-putting this would be if I had bought this purely for the purposes of using it on Alexa. But, I don’t feel it fair to downgrade the speaker for such a reason because it is undeniably an amazing product and one which I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. Overall, I would go as far as saying this is a perfect speaker that has made a fantastic addition to our living room and is a real pure joy to own if music plays a large part in your life. Highly recommended - and 5 stars all-round for its quality, durability, design, and, of course, the crispest, clear and most perfect of sound offerings.
