It's all plastic except the hanger up top. It worked great until the crazy squirrels chewed and pulled out the bottom feeder hole so destroyed the bird feeder. **Q: Can I use thistles** A: Thistle or Niger seed is tiny. Those feeders have just a tiny slot for birds like Goldfinch. Others can't get to them except destructo the squirrel. Squirrel guard above seems to work if hanging on wire. **Q: Does it come with seed** A: No. It does not. You can buy various types of seed (depending on the types of birds you have in your area) through Amazon. Happy with the purchase ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ VERY GOOD *by A***R on 18 March 2021* VERY GOOD ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ My local Chickadee's love it *by A***N on 19 September 2023* Its now migrating season and this feeder has attracted a lot of new birds this season. I've had is out for a few months now and its great, the birds love it. The posts for them to stand on are a bit short for the tiny birds I get here, but they make due. This feeder wastes much less seed than the other feeder I have out, it wont let the birds be jerks and beak-sweep their way to the good stuff, it kinda forces them to eat whats there.
