Still going strong after over three years of use...
Installed this during summer of 2015 on the back of a 3rd generation (2006-2012) Toyota Rav4 with an Auto-Vox replacement rearview mirror that I also purchased here on Amazon. So far the camera is working great, though it's only been a few days. The threading and nut on the attachment shaft seemed a little sketchy, but it ended up tightening on nicely. Also, just to be thorough about it being waterproof, I added a little clear silicone sealant to the flat surface of the camera during installation to seal it tight against the car where I mounted it.As another reviewer said, this also comes with adjustments if you want to tweak the picture. There's a green wire you can cut if you want the reverse guidelines eliminated (i.e., the red, yellow, and green lines), and a white wire you can cut if you want mirror image instead of direct feed. I left mine as it was from the factory and it worked great for my purposes (EDIT: based on one of the comments to this review, it sounds like the manufacturer may have switched the function of the white and green picture modification wires--I would recommend following whatever the instructions say that come with the box).Came with plenty of RCA video cable to do the job in a 3rd generation Rav4.Will update if I have any issues with it.UPDATE 11/30/15--After 6 months of using this camera it's still going strong. I have a factory backup camera on my other car and I hate to say it, but this little camera beats the factory setup on my other car. The factory unit on the other car has slightly better nightime visibility but this camera produces a clearer picture and better colors than the fuzzy, washed-out factory unit. I'm still reluctant to believe that a camera for this price from Amazon will really go the distance, but so far it's been flawless. Will update again in future if I have issues with it.UPDATE 6/23/16--It's been over a year now since I installed this camera and it's still working perfectly. It's seen plenty of rain where I live and plenty of miles on the freeway at high speeds in said rain. No issues to report at all.UPDATE 5/17/17--Coming up on two years with this camera and still have zero complaints. Picture quality is still excellent (and still better than the factory camera in my other car) and performance has been flawless.UPDATE 4/6/18--Quickly approaching three years with this unit. Tens of thousands of miles, plenty of rainstorms, car washes, snow, salt, some light off-roading, etc., and it still works flawlessly and continues to produce a significantly better picture than the factory unit in my other, newer car. At this point, this camera owes me nothing. Continued five stars from me.UPDATE 10/22/18--Now over three years of use with this camera and the wiring that was shipped with it. About 30,000 miles of near-daily use and zero issues to report. No complaints from me.UPDATE 03/26/20--Coming up on 5 years and 50,000 miles since I first installed the camera. Camera still works perfectly every time I back up. Continued 5 stars.

Well constructed, reasonably priced wired rear view camera.
This is a very nice rear view camera for a very reasonable price. For about $15 and change you get a standard definition camera in a heavy metal enclosure that feels very solid and of very good quality. It comes with the camera, mounting nut, an adapter cable that converts the camera's 4 wire proprietary port to separate female RCA video connector and power wires. There is also a long male/male RCA video and rear light cable that is used to connect the camera to your head unit or monitor. The video quality of the camera is good. It is standard def, not HD, but it is adequate for the purpose it serves. It has superimposed green/yellow/red guidelines that can be disabled by snipping a wire loop on the camera cable. The superimposed guidelines are always at the bottom of the video image no matter how you orient the camera itself. That's a neat trick that lets you mount the camera in any orientation you want. The video image is reversed by default so it looks like you're looking in the rear view mirror when you view the image in your head unit/monitor. The image can be set to normal view by snipping another wire loop on the camera cable. There are no infrared LED's or other illumination that comes with the camera. However, it gives an excellent night time view using the light from my RAV4's backup lights. At night the camera gives me a much brighter view to the rear than my mirror or turning my head and looking back. The camera is said to be waterproof to IP67 standards which means it will not allow water in when submerged to a depth of 1 meter for 30 minutes. I did not further waterproof my installation (ie no silicon seal) but I will update this review if I get water problems. The camera requires 12V DC to operate. In a standard rear camera setup you would tap into your backup light cable to power the camera when you have the vehicle in reverse. If you're using this with a head unit, you would also need to connect that 12V signal to the head unit's "reverse" line in order to activate the monitor when the vehicle is in reverse. There is a red wire at both ends of the long video cable that can be used to send this signal or to power the camera iteslf if you want to tap into 12V near the front of the vehicle. The manual that came with the camera is very rudimentary. The pictures in the manual don't even look like the camera itself. There is no indication of the purpose of the red wires at each end of the video cable. I posted the manual in it's entirety along with a sample image of the camera output.Aside from the crummy manual I would say that this camera actually appears quite high quality in it's feel and construction. It worked fine for me right out of the box. I will update this review if I find any issues with it.

Quality Front/Rear Camera At A Great Price!
***UPDATE March 2019***It’s been 3 years since I installed these 2 cameras on my ride and they are still going strong as ever! I haven’t had a single issue with either of them! Now that I have a new truck I’m going to buy 2 more to install on this current vehicle. Click buy now, you won’t regret it! I also updated my original review from 4 stars to 5 to account for such longevity that you typically don’t receive from mass manufactured Chinese products.I purchased a total of 3 of these cameras, 1 for my wife's VW Passat for a Pioneer AVH-X4800 install and 2 for my VW Touareg so I could have both front and rear view along with my Pioneer AVH-4100NEX install. 1 of the 3 cameras was DOA, which delayed the installation process by 2 days while I was halfway through the install. Luckily Amazon has a great exchange process which allowed the new camera to arrive next day air thanks to Amazon Prime. Quality control could be better as I believe everything should be tested before leaving the factory. Whatever you do, hook up your camera and make sure it works before installing it unless you want an open hole in your car while you wait for a new one!Installation for the most part was pretty easy. On the Passat I had to completely remove the rear bumper to effectively drill a hole to mount it correctly. The nut that came with the camera is total crap, all of them were loose and wouldn't stay on tight enough for my liking so I suggest you go to a hardware store and purchase a 5/16 stop nut and washer. I also purchased a 2" rubber washer to put over the mount to help aid against water getting anywhere near the inside of the camera. The video cable that's included was more than long enough to reach the head unit from the trunk.Image quality is pretty good considering it's only a $16 camera. Both the day and night image is both clear and bright. See pics above.Overall I'd say this is a good addition to your vehicle if you're looking to add the extra safety of a front/rear camera. As far as longevity goes... We'll just have to wait and see how long it lasts. I'll post an update to let everybody know! If they all last until then it'll make up for the dead camera that arrived and I'll change my rating from 4 to 5 stars. Also please keep in mind that this is a tool for safely helping you see what's directly behind your vehicle. Remember to turn around and look both ways when backing up. Be safe out there!
