Evidently it is the oil-based products that must be reapplied more often, just from sweating. I can't say whether it lasts after swimming, but I've never heard of anyone using bug spray in that situation anyway. I would have thought oil-based repellants lasted longer, but this formula does not absorb into the skin or dissipate in sweat. I arrived at this brand after trying several others, and I can say without reservation it is BY FAR the most effective. One application last me through several hours of bicycling or yard work. I have also tried various deet-free products that were quite inferior... my research eventually led to the discovery that the essential oil- based products still pose a risk of serious skin reactions (in children, mostly), and that deet poses no greater threat as long it is used as directed (don't drink it or splash it in your eyes!). And for what it's worth, IR3535 (found in Avon products and others) is all but useless because it needs to be reapplied hourly. **Q: Does this work on No-see-ums like they have in Florida?** A: Yes it definitely helps.
