The size (5'6") was perfect for my 10 year old daughter who with limited fishing experience, learned to use it quickly. This is not a toy pole you often find for kids, but the spin cast reel is easy to operate for a beginner. My daughter loved the pink color of the rod and real as well as the color coded accessories. We did not experience any problems with the line tangling or spooling incorrectly during the times she used it. I am sure this pole will last several years or more if maintained.
