I really like this pick
I really like this pick. It has a real musical quality to the pick attack that is smoother to my ears. Not as bright as the Nylpro and Dunlop Jazz III stiffo picks. The one thing that is REALLY noticeable with this pick is how easily they glide across the strings. I can pick faster, cleaner, and with more dynamic range with this pick than I can any other pick. I have used the black Dunlop Jazz IIIs for at least the last 12 years until I tried this one out. I like the the way this pick just as much. The pick attack sounds better for Jazz and progressive rock (to my ears) as I prefer a smoother, warmer, attack. The Jazz IIIs I prefer for Hard Rock and Metal as they have a sharper attack.

settled for these
Best pickup's i've used, i used the similar size Dunlop Jazz pickups, suits my playing which is versatile and ranges from mellow stuff, to blues to heavy and progressive. Great handling and I love the size and resistance feel f the 1.1m ones. This size encourages me to do a lot of hybrid picking and use my fingers a lot, which is always a good practice and feel

I wish these were just a little bigger
While slightly larger than the Jazz III picks (which is a good thing,) they're not quite big enough for my tastes (the Jazz III XLs are better if you like larger picks.) However, I feel like these will fit the bill for a lot of players, as they hit what seems to be a niche when it comes to the size. These aren't terribly expensive compared to the JD Flow picks that I settled on. However, they're Derilin, which makes them pretty much the same as the Tortex picks.

rippin with black ice
i bought both heavy and extra heavy for comparison and i prefer the heavy over the extra heavy cause you hear more of the pick attack which is what i favor. you can dig in a little more than the extra heavy's but they're both great picks for speed picking or shredding, it's just a matter personal preference. i can see a super shredder jazz player going for the extra heavies cause of the smoother roll off the string, less pick attack and i can see a metal player going for the heavy cause there's more pick attack. they're both great picks and they don't slip out of my fingers. planet waves rocks!

Nice size, good grip.
Just slightly larger than a Jazz III, and slightly smaller than the John Petrucci. Has a good grip kind of like the gator grip by Dunlop.

Most of all - I love the tone
I'm really happy with the Black Ice Heavy picks (1.10 mm), which I bought after being badly disappointed with my last order of Dunlop Jazz IIIs. I would call the Black Ice picks medium sized. They are roughly the same size and shape as Fender 551 picks, but a little bigger than the Jazz IIIs. They are stiffer than the 551s and perhaps a touch less stiff than the IIIs (and thinner than the IIIs too). One thing that may account for the nice way the Black Ice perform is that the edges are beveled and smoothly finished in a way which differs from the 551s (which I still like) and from the Jazz IIIs. In terms of playability, they are about the same to me as any other pick of this shape and stiffness. But the most important thing to me is the hardest thing to communicate to you: The tone. I love the tone I get with these picks, and the best I can do for you is to say that I was looking for a pick that would generate a solid, mellow jazz tone with an archtop - a tone that reminds me of say, Barney Kessel (but without Barney's chops of coursse). This is what the Black Ice delivers.

Doesn't match the photo! I tried these picks from ...
Doesn't match the photo! I tried these picks from a friend of mine (the one in the photo) When they arrived they're in a different package and a different shape/size. This is BS! I'd return it but it's not enough money to be worth my time. Kinda hoped for higher standards from D/addario

great feeling lead pick
Very nice feel, doesn't slip in fingers even though a small pick. Very nice for leads, but I've always used those big triangle picks for strumming hard on an acoustic, this ones a little small for that job.

I have moved from Jazz III XL to these and prefer the texture and attack. They are less grippy though which took a little while to get used to. Good value for 25, should last a while.

Love these picks, sized just between normal picks and jazz picks.
