When Work and Family Collide: Keeping Your Job from Cheating Your Family

Solid suggestions for being fully present for your family
This is another book that comes with an assignment, if you intend to apply its principles.Andy Stanley makes the case here that every adult is susceptible to cheating his or her family at the expense of his or her occupation - even if that occupation is home based or otherwise involves the family. I have been looking for advice about how to be more fully present for my wife and three sons while doing my job well, and this book makes the case for why you should "cheat" on your job for the sake of your family, rather than the other way around. It also suggests what seems to be a workable approach for doing that.Stanley's writing is engaging and incorporates Scripture well. I am looking forward to seeing how his ideas work out in our own situation.

Helping You Balance God's Priorities for Your Life
One of the most difficult things I've experienced in life (as a pastor with five kids) is balancing work/ministry and family. Whether you are a dad, mom, single parent, in full time ministry or have a full time job - or no matter how you slice it - it's hard to balance work and family. In this book Andy Stanley articulates the modern realities that face us in the market place and in our homes. He does not minimize, rationalize, or make excuses for the break down of families. What he does very well is to show how we can be excellent in the marketplace and serve our families needs in a balanced and biblical manner.Andy Stanley gives a myriad of practical examples of how we can prioritize our lives biblically and bring glory to God in the workplace and in our homes. I highly recommend this book as a very practical guide for you in seeking to be a balanced Christian that prioritizes life in a manner that contributes mightily to what is most pleasing to our Awesome God - for His ultimate glory.

It’s a great go to for the emerging leader
We use this book each summer for our interns. Was one that my boss got me nearly 15 years ago and I am paying it forward. Keep a supply of these on hand

Life Changing
I would recommend this book to every parent and spouse. We live in a culture that says "Go Go Go!" and "More More More!" So it is easy to bog down our schedules and feel overwhelmed. It's easy for our families to feel cheated. What this book does is helps you see the importance of a healthy balance between work and family, and how it can change the life of every family member not just you.I want my kids to look back at their childhood and say, "Wow, my dad really put our family first. And because of that I want to make sure to put my family first."

Applies to more than just your work
A great foundation from which to make your resources decisions. Should be given to all career minded family raising professionals while their kids are still young. However the basics of this book apply to so many tough decisions unrelated to just how much time we commit to our jobs.

Approachable and helps get you started
This is a quick read and wonderfully thought provoking like his other books. Like the Bible, it doesn’t have all the detailed, nitty gritty answers. What it does have is the big answers that help you get your heart and head thinking in the right direction. It helps you open up to His answers.

Invaluable and life changing truth
What would you say your priorities are?Does the way you lead your life and spend your time match up with how you'd answer that question? If like many the answer, in truth, is 'no' then I'd urge you to read this short but invaluable insight into living out a life where your actions and not your intentions are the mark of the priorities in your life, priorities that God has given us and actions that He will homie as we seek His Kingdom ahead of our own egos and successes.
