Lithium ion batteries do lose the ability to hold a charge over time but there is no information on when they expire exactly or how long they can be used. What is the manufacturing date? lithium batteries have a self life even if not used. if this dates to the time of the hero 4 it is at end of life.

There were different batches so we cannot say for certain what the manufacturing date is unless we have the specific battery in hand. The first batches were manufactured in 2014, but there succeeding batches. It would be best to get in touch with the seller directly to get the information.

what is the difference in the silver and the black

I would assume this is the GoPro Hero 4 Black and SilverThis website expalins all the differences:http://havecamerawilltravel.com/photographer/gopro-hero-4-black-vs-silver But quickly the Hero 4 Black has many better recording options and higher framerates, whereas the Hero 4 Silver has similar resolutions but lower framrates. Also the Hero 4 Silver has a touchscreen LCD included on the rear where the Hero 4 Black does not, unless bought separately.
