THE MYSTERY OF CHACO CANYON examines the deep enigmas presented by the massive prehistoric remains found in Chaco Canyon in northwestern New Mexico. It is the summation of 20 years of research. The film reveals that between 850 and 1150 AD, the Chacoan people designed and constructed massive ceremonial buildings in a complex celestial pattern throughout a vast desert region. Aerial and time lapse footage, computer modeling, and interviews with scholars show how the Chacoan culture designed, oriented and located its major buildings in relationship to the sun and moon. Pueblo Indians, descendants of the Chacoan people, regard Chaco as a place where their ancestors lived in a sacred past. Pueblo leaders speak of the significance of Chaco to the Pueblo world today.

The Mystery of Chaco Canyon
This short video is one of the most amazing reality shows ever produced. You will learn how the Southwest American Indians developed and built a huge center 1,000 years ago that had buildings aligned with both the sun and the moon. One building had over 600 rooms. The intelligence of the builders who, with no written language, could design and construct Chaco over many generations is remarkable. I have watched it several times and enjoyed it more each time. If you do not know about Chaco Canyon, you are unaware of one of the most important cultural centers in the history of our country.

A great documentary for those looking to broaden their knowledge of ancient architecture and astronomy. One can't help but admire the complexity and wisdom of the Chacoan people. It's fascinating and definitely worth buying!

The mystery of Chaco Canyon
I just saw this presentation on the educational station. I was astounded and kinda "freaked-out" by the degree of knowledge that the anasazi had. The acheoastronomy investigated by a couple of researchers breaks down the map of pueblos and what was previously thought as simple petroglyphs, were instead maps of the course of the moon from its minimim to maximum declination in contrast to the path of the sun. A complex system of pueblos had been created. It really is quite facinating. As a Native American from the Navajo Tribe & a lover of astronomy, I was totally blown away by this film. I'm ordering this DVD.
