Had my Doubts... But no longer!
This unit is very helpful. That is the short version of what you are about to read. Since this is the first review for this item, I will try to be as in depth as possible. If you are familiar with Hot Water On Demand heaters, than you know they are just that. They provide warm or hot water in about 10 seconds or less. This unit is certainly no different and did not disappoint. I had bought this item when it was $325, and received a partial refund when the price dropped the next night. Then, when my father took it on a trip to keep the water warm on the 6 hour drive home, it quit. I was quite disappointed initially, until I discovered that I had missed a very important safety feature of the unit. What I did not know is that when the pump cannot deliver enough water through the heater, it will automatically shut down. It clicks a few times, and then shuts off entirely. Like I said before, I was disappointed, but then turned very pleased when I discovered this feature. Thanks!

Wife had to take a cold shower!!!
I purchased this a while back in preparation for a trip. It was sketchy in the kitchen and worse out in the rough. Just finally got around to using it in the field and it was a fiasco! Battery wont stay charged and the pilot wont stay lit. I can hear the piezo firing and the burner running but as soon as I move it off of pilot the heater shuts down. Wifey had to take a cold shower and was not happy at all. Challenge now is that amazon only has a 30 day return window and I am screwed. I would not recommend this product. Update: Coleman claims this is all due to a bat battery with the shipped unit. I am waiting for this to see if it fixes things. Still, the 30 day return window still sux pretty badly.

Camped for 9 days with and it worked perfectly!
Once you get the hang of the safety cut off features, this thing is great! We are a family of 8 and we love to camp for weeks at a time. It sounds lame, but my pet peeve is having to boil water to do dishes. I felt so spoiled on our last trip because all I had to do was run my dish pan full of clean water, turn on the pump and submerge it (sometimes shake it around to get the air bubbles out), turn on the heater, and set the temperature! Hot dish water in just a few minutes! It only "failed" on us a few times in 9 days and each time it turned out to be user error. Once I forgot to plug in the power cord for the pump unit. Once the water level got too low for the pump so it shut off the propane. And once it just died... because I forgot to charge it. But we we found out that we were able to run it while it was plugged in to the charger! From then on we just kept it plugged in most of the time. This use hadn't occurred to me before this trip but it was a nice perk... The bath house wasn't too far away but we have younger boys and I wouldn't dare send them alone so, instead of waiting until my husband was back from the store, I just had the kids shower in their swimsuits right there at our campsite. They loved it! And each time, I had to turn the heat setting down because they said it was too warm. I hadn't expected to have the "problem" with a portable water heater. We did a youtube review: [...]

Great product but one drawback would be the need to ...
Great product but one drawback would be the need to re-ignite burner if you interrupt the flow of hot water. My way around this was to head to my local hardware store and purchase a pressure relief valve (commonly used for hot water tank applications etc.); the problem with these are that they are set to open at much too high a pressure for the Coleman unit (they are normally set at around 75PSI whereas the Coleman unit only produces 5-15 PSI). What I did was disassemble the pressure relief valve by simply unscrewing the mechanism holding the cap in place and replacing the internal spring with a much weaker spring; the pressure relief valve also allows for adjustment by tightening/loosening an adjustment screw. This allowed me to dial the valve in so it is triggered by 5-10 PSI of water pressure. Next what I did was add an on/off valve inline before the shower head (Coleman uses standard size shower threads so head to the shower section of your local hardware store). Next I placed the pressure relief valve to the water output of the Coleman with a T adapter. I then attached a hose to the pressure relief valve and secured the hose to the water intake line all the way to the pump; essentially when you close the valve at the shower head, the pressure in the line increases and the pressure relief valve opens causing the hot water to flow back to the water source. This allows you turn the water flow on/off without having to re-ignite the burner allowing for a much better experience with the Coleman H2Oasis; while the water is switched off you are also recirculating the hot water back to your supply, which if it is in a container, causes the container temp to raise effectively acting as a storage tank for your hot water; when the max temp is reached the burner will shut off but the Coleman water pump will continue to pump the now hot water to the shower head without the need of the burner being lit since the water is already up to temp. Would have been nice if Coleman included something like this out-of-the-box but for ~$40 and a half hour of your time it's not a deal breaker.

Very Hot!
This thing is phenomenal! The 5 gallon tote it comes with is garbage but if you have the space for a larger water container that would be ideal. It is very easy to connect the lines wrong and it will pump giving you the impression it's correct until it faults out and leaves you checking what's wrong. I used both a 1lb Coleman tank and a 5lb (using the adapter hose) the 5 lb gave much better performance than the 1lb (which was brand new). Altogether, once you get used to the setup and the water feed supply, this is invaluable. Used for 1 week in Montana at a primitive site that DID have water.

There are probably better options!!
The thing is junk, for the most part!!! Don’t spend money on this product. The battery is worthless, no joke. It doesn’t charge with the car charger they send. So, buy an extra charger, NO, shouldn’t have to. Even after I did buy the wall charger, the battery rarely charges! I thought we’d get lucky based on some reviews, but it’s worthless. I don’t think you should have to buy an extra/alternate battery and do any modifications. Paying for anything, it should come in working order. To top it off, the battery only works for one or two showers. Fun idea! WASTE OF MONEY!!

Test before going!
Was excited to have a hot shower while out moose hunting for 2 weeks, opened and assembled before we left, made sure pilot light came on but didn’t run water through it. Got in the field and it would not ignite the heating element! Pilot lite came on fine but unable to switch to heating. Also didn’t like that the only way to charge was a cigarette lighter. Went to Coleman’s website to buy the wall charger and apparently they don’t sell it, despite the manual saying they do. If it had worked, it claims one charge will heat 40 gallons which would be impressive. The water bag it comes with is flimsy and as water leaves the bag it will fall off whatever you have it set on to gravity feed into the “heater”. Finally used a chair with a restraint to keep it from falling, but never could get the heater to work. Looks like standard threads so could probably use a different “tank”. Should have actually ran water through it before leaving but with a trusted name like Coleman we figured if the pilot lit it would be good to go. They could improve the design by recessing the on/off switch. Ours got bumped in transit and was dead when we arrived. On the plus side, it’s lightweight, if it works it would be efficient with heating/pumping 40 gallons on one pump charge. Really wanted to like this product. Returning it.

NO 120V-12V POWER SUPPLY...WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!
Yes. They do not include a home power supply which means you need to leave it plugged into your vehicle for (initially) 6 hours to charge the battery. The instructions give you a part number for a 120v-12v adapter, ...but where do you purchase this item. NOT on the Coleman web site, nor from Amazon. Always thinking outside the box, and just plain lucky, I found a 120v-12v power supply with a cigarett lighter plug to match the plug on the water heater on Amazon, and was just lucky that it worked! The unit is fickle as well. You NEED to try this unit out at home before you really need it as it can be tempermental. I found that the water bottle that comes with the water heater is a BIG waste of water. Works much better if you put the pump in a bucket of clean water, and then place the shower head into the bucket as well to save water. When you want to use the unit, you need to start the pump first so the heater can sense water flow. This is why you place the shower head into the bucket to save water. While in use, return the shower head to the bucket and allow the water to circulate, which will save water, and remove shower head from the bucket to rinse off. Then find the right spot on the dial to get the Pizio ignighter to operate. The temp selector is SENSITIVE! Turn it all the way to max-hot works good. Nice and hot with good water flow. Touch it to turn it down, ...and it may go WAY DOWN to cold. Also, dont bump the machine when in use/running as it has SENSITIVE sensors which will stop EVERYTHING! Other then these "MINOR" details, the unit does work...ish! (smiley face)

hot water!
OK, this thing is awesome. Hot showers every day while camping in a 'no facilities' except outhouses/well water on the west coast of Canada. I added a Y connector and added a short hose to the shower water outlet to the shower head to 'recycle' the water back into the repurposed unused/clean 45 gallon plastic garbage bucket we used to hold the source water, in order not to waste water (had to pack it in from the campground tap). Once the water was flowing hot (does this quite quickly) and the unit steadied in terms of operation (sometimes flickered out a couple times/no big deal) , I simply twist the lever to direct water from back into the source bucket to the mounted shower head. Works beautifully. Hooked a small five gallon propane tank to the unit instead of the 1 gallon disposable green ones so could refill instead of create garbage. Highly recommend.

Price drop and functionality
Few things to note. This is our third unit. Over the years we have had success with Coleman products so we are in need of a new one. Delivery was quick and easy. Price was terrible, went down by $100 the day after we purchased it and no place to speak with Amazon. Then we hook it up and wait for it to charge to only find out the pilot light will not stay lit. So very upset and disappointed. The unit was expensive and goes on sale the day after. And to top off the disappointment the heater does not work.

works but needs to be better
you get hot water but it could be much better. everytime you turn the water pump on, you have to light the pilot light and set the water temp. stop the water and turn it back on and go through the same procedure. there should be a switch to turn the power on allowing you to turn the pilot light on and set the water temp, then a switch to turn the pump on. would take a 2 star rating to 4 star with that change. some other issues, screwing the pump into a plastic flex jug is not easy to form a seal. cable to power the pump is shorter than the hose it's attached to so tends to kink the hose
