Then after a few uses it’s out of gas** A: Before you can fill a butane lighter you will need to take a small poker like toothpick size and push down on the filler hole. You should hear air escape. Fill a bit and push down on the filler hole again and then fill it again with the butane. It might take a few of those to fill it. When the flame gets really tall it's empty so you're not getting much butane in. **Q: How do I fill the lighter with butane? That was a good decision! This lighter is well made and has been through a few refills now and still no issues whatsoever. It's hefty in the hand, not too large or too small, the corners aren't sharp, and the toolless design for adjusting the flame is a cut above the rest. It works well for cigars and pipes alike. I only use Colibri butane after having issues with other brands of butane and other lighters, so refilling is super quick and easy. The black and gold is a nice contrast.
