Children's Mathematics: Cognitively Guided Instruction

Arrived quickly in great condition. While this was the older edition, it provided with a great framework and was concise. While it is a bit research dense, the book provides teacher with a theoretical background into why we should teach with a CGI framework, based upon student understanding and mathematical development. Would like to see a vignette/narrative written about what is going on inside a CGI classroom to make this book even more powerful. If you're looking for a book of tricks, this is not for you. This book is to provide background and theory upon how children learn math concepts. Great.

Excellent resource for those wishing to guide students from informal understanding of solving word problems to problem solving. The authors' examples of the various problem types coupled with explanations and strategically placed video clips (CD included) guide even the most novice CGI instructor to a clear understanding of the problems and expected student strategies, classroom environment and expectations needed to implement this teaching strategy.

As a student learning to become a teacher I found this book a great resource. It has changed the way I view mathematics myself and how I will teach it. The short chapters and jam packed with information and not with a lot of fluff.

The book was in pretty good condition--what I expected. However, it did not come with the CD's, which I needed for my class, so I was a bit inconvenienced.
