I can fit a stack of 3 Angel Soft double rolls. Mine measures 5.5 inch diameter, 13.5 inches tall.

are you able to remove rolls without picking up tipping the container sideways? If so, how?

Yes, no problem . Put a finger in the center of a roll and just pull up. The only possible problem with normal removal is if you use very large double rolls of TP ---which I have-- so then you just pull up harder from the canter of the roll . What I like about this tissue holder is that you can really hide its usage in a bathroom .

is the lid a tight fit?

i WOULDN'T SAY "TIGHT", NO. It sits on top of the container and when taking hold of the knob on the lid, the lid comes off.
