If you blow air into the cabinet, it may not be able to exit as quickly and you would get air blowing back around the inside of the cabinet and impeding airflow into the cabinet. Think of it his way, if you blow into a paper cup with a fairly small hole in it, you can only "blow" so much air in and the rest comes back out at you. to avoid this potential problem, you will get the maximum airflow through the cabinet by pulling in air that is exhausted out by the fan. **Q: What is the size of the hole that has to be cut in the cabinet?** A: The fan comes with a clear plastic template to guide you. Just tape it to the cabinet wall you are mounting the fan onto. The hole is about 5 inches square. The face/lip of the fan is about 5 3/4 inches square. You also must drill 4 holes for the mounting screws - also made easy using the template. For me, it took 10 minutes to hand-saw through the thin, paneling-like board backing of my entertainment cabinet. 10 minutes to mount the fan with 4 screws. It took 2 minutes to plug it into an unused USB port on my amplifier for fan power. Now, my whole 7 component system stays cool. This is a near Apple-like experience, with a perfectly fit box that's fitted with foam padding and perfectly molded compartments for the fan and controller, and all cables and accessory underneath. I know it's a small thing, but for a fan that you NEED to be near silent, they thought through packaging very well--providing immediate confidence that nothing vibrated too badly during shipping. Next-the instructions are crystal clear, and the templates for making the cutouts into the cabinet are made of clear plastic, not thin paper. This is a huge plus, as the see through plastic allow you to align easily and visualize the hole that you are making. In my case, I installed the AC Infinity T3 fan into my home's AV cabinet that is built into our living room wall, so this is now a permanent fixture in our home. The clean, black finish blends nicely with our dark cherry cabinetry. Setup is a breeze too, thanks to clearly written instructions. The control module has manual, auto, and smart-auto settings that turn the fan on/off and control the speed of the fan. I'm using the smart setting which is designed to smoothly transition between off/on by varying fan speed. So far, so good. My cabinet is definitely cooler with this fan running, but I'm about ready to order a second fan because the shelves in my cabinet prevent good airflow without a second fan blowing air in and around. I suspected this might be the case but figured I would try one fan first. Highly recommend this cooling system.
