Traxxas 7817 Skid Pate, roof (Body) (Black)

Good item to add as my xmaxx ultimate did not include one it adds protection to the top of the body

Traxxas part that fits great. Should have came stock but here we are. Installation is easy but follow these steps… •Drill 4 small pilot holes from underneath the body through the 4 empty holes in the cage. •Remove the middle part of the cage. •Drill out the holes to the correct size by stepping up gradually in bit size. Make them big enough for the skid plate studs to fit through not just the screws. •Clean off excess plastic then push the skid plate on through the new holes. •Put the cage back in and screw them together until tight. That’s pretty much it.

This was a great addition and the new XMaxx comes with it already installed. Installation was not a beginner project and it would have helped if I had a hole expander bit but it is not an advanced project either. I used a drill bit, a marker and got by.

At $110 each I think the $10 this costs is well worth it to help protect the body, especially since the roof takes a lot of beating when you flip it over and it slides along the concrete. To make it sit flush you have to put some rather large holes in the body, large enough for the 4 pegs on the underside of this piece to go through. If you don't have a "body reamer" tool you might consider buying one, it would make installation a lot easier. I used a drill bit and razor blade, but the drill bit cut into the body support underneath so the included screws weren't large enough and I had to source screws with larger heads. In the end it looks and works great though.

Why traxxas didn't include this stock on the truck? I do not know. I mean I can guess they want more money but I feel like without this roof rack you're just going to destroy the body so quick. I also recommend doing the shoe goo and fiber tape reinforcing method to make bodies last much longer. Tldr buy this if you have an x-maxx it's worth it
