Review of the Kenko 2.0X PRO 300 Teleconverter DGX for NIKON AF SLR cameras
I bought this Kenko 2.0X teleconverter for future use with the Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 D ED IF telephoto zoom lens as this is the only teleconverter that is 100% compatible with the Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 D ED lens which can be mounted on both my digital and film SLR cameras. I tested this teleconverter using my Nikon F5 film camera (a camera Nikon introduced in 1996, 23 years ago) and the teleconverter work with attached Tokina 100mm f/2.8 lens which receive the same autofocus signals as my Nikon D3. The Nikon F5 does not receive the aperture data but autofocus works 100%. Using the same telecoverter with the Tokina 100mm f/2.8 macro lens attached to a Nikon D3, aperture, ISO and shutter speed were all transmitted to the camera as shown in the first uploaded image (aperture is doubled to 200mm). The teleconverter has NO VR or Image stabilization and needs to be attached to the upcoming Nikon D6 which supports AF-D lenses and has IBIS (In Body Image Stabilization) feature. Update 08/12/2019 - The Nikon F5 film camera is receiving the Aperture value from my second test after I have corrected the Tokina lens to be set to its minimum aperture of f/32 and the green lock is set. I did not notice this mistake, only when I tested the Kenko 2.0X teleconverter on my Nikon F6 did I got an error message of FEE that I was able to resolve the error that I got for my Nikon F5 film camera. Both the Nikon F6 and F6 film cameras are receiving the correct aperture times 2, shutter speed and ISO from the Nikon lens attached to this Kenko teleconverter.

Good lens for Amateur Hobbiests looking for Affordable addition to their Kit
Please note that I am writing this review for amateur hobbiest photographers like myself. I purchased this TC for use with a Nikkor 55-300mm lens on my Nikon D3200. As you can see, these are both more basic equipment pieces. When I first got this TC I was very disappointed. All of my photos seemed to come out very fuzzy and there was a terrible jolting action of the lens and image when I pushed the shutter button. I have since spent some time practicing with the lens and have ironed out most of the kinks. 1. Clarity: First off, all TC result in a loss of clarity of your image. With a fast shutter speed, manual focus, and a smaller aperture to be a little more forgiving, I have found that the clarity from these images is acceptable for my purposes, and is only mildly less than my traditional lenses. 2. Autofocus: The autofocus absolutely does not work with this TC. I have to focus manually, which when I have it extended to 600mm (2x my 300mm), can be a little difficult. I recommend spending some time with this equipment to get used to it before taking it on a trip. 3. Shutter Speed: Since I am using it as a long extender and typically use it to shoot in the 600mm range, I have to maintain a fast shutter speed. Preferably between 1/400-1/640+. With this, and trying to keep the aperture a little tighter to improve my focus forgiveness, I have found this lens is not a good option for low light situations. I do seem to obtain the best quality images when I shoot in full manual mode with this lens. 4. VR: The VR setting on my lens has to be shut OFF in order to use this TC and avoid the jolting/moving of the image. 5. Macro: I really like using this lens to shoot macro. I have found it has an approximately 3 foot focal distance at my 600mm range, so once I am past that I can get some nice macro shots. All in all, I think this is a decent, affordable addition to my hobby kit. You certainly get what you pay for, in that it pushes you to use a lot more skill with your camera to obtain good images. It gives me the range I want for specific situations, since I would never be able to invest in a true 600mm lens. After having spent some time practicing with it, I can say that your images can be pretty nice. Certainly not "pro" quality, but it is all dependent on what you are looking for. I have attached a few images I took while practicing with this lens. The image of my horse was taken at around 100 ft away.

Doesn't work at all with auto focus
I purchased this because someone had done a video review on youtube with the same camera that I have. I also checked on amazon and on the camera charts provided by Kenko. It is supposed to work with my camera and lenses This thing does work worth a damn. Ok, let me clarify...it DOES magnify 2 times, but it renders your Auto focus completely useless, and your VR useless and likely will cause your auto focus to burn the dang motor out. Nikon D5300 with Nikon fixed 35 mm, Nikon 18-55 AF lens and the Nikon 55-200 mm lenses..Well, I guess the Autofocus TRIES to work, but it can't focus on anythign and just sits there and hunts for something focus on. It DOES work in manual mode....but....If I wanted a manual focus lens, I could have just bought a manual focus 400-600 mm lens. I have Meinke macrotubes with A/F that I got for less than $50, work better than this. Save yourself the money and time, just buy a manual focus long lens until you can afford an AF zoom lens or the Nikon Tele

Image quality is very soft and lacks contrast with a good amount of purple/blue fringing
I tried to use this teleconverter with my fast Nikon lenses on the D800 camera, the autofocus does not work with the new "G" AFS lenses even the F1.8 & F2.8 lenses. Image quality is very soft and lacks contrast with a good amount of purple/blue fringing. In order to get a decent image you need excellent light conditions, like bright sunlight or use a flash with low light. The Kenko TC 1.4X Pro is a much better choice. I do not recommend getting this product unless image quality is not first priority.

Love! Love
Love! Love! Love! I wasn't expect fantasticness but as a bonus that is what I received. Once the smartness in me came to light and I figured how to easily focus the camera I had fantastic shots. Even shots moving in a car going 70 mph looked like we stopped and took some of the photos. Will you win awards and million dollar contracts with this adaptor ~no but I really enjoy what I've done with it thus far. The largest print I could do where everything still looked great and not noisy was a 2'x3' poster size.

A Good Lens
We recently went to Costa Rica looking to take pictures of wildlife. We realized we needed more magnification. Wife is the photographer and she really didn't want to deal with a 600mm lens. So, I got this for her. It is much easier to use this in manual focus mode. If you know that going in, it will definitely bring objects closer.
