Solid short term replacement for 97 TJ latches
The hood latches arrived quickly per Amazon Prime shipping out of the Lexington KY facility, precisely 26 hours to NY, pretty impressive. As for the latches, they are replacing the exact ones I had on my 97 TJ, not sure if they had been replaced by previous owner or not. Rubber is in much better shape than what’s on mine currently. I’m slightly concerned about what some other reviewers have said about them not holding the hood secure enough, but cost comparatively, these were the best option for me as they won’t be used for too long of a time. Plastic feels sturdy and nut was screwed onto the bottom of both (*NOTE: these are sold individually, I ordered two to complete the hood). One other note, these DO NOT come with the “female” end that attaches to the hood, these are for ONE Latch only! Latch Lined up with stock mounting holes and installed with almost no effort. The fit, or “hold down” value, seems to be good during a test drive of 65mph on the highway. I did not experience any hood movement like others have complained about. Overall I’d recommend these latches for a budget replacement, they aren’t the best ones available (they don’t claim to be), but they are a quality cost-centric replacement for stock latches.

Suitable low-cost replacement
My 2000 Jeep Wrangler TJ lost both of its hood catches within a week due to the rubber straps becoming brittle. This part was a suitable, low-cost replacement for the stock hood catches and were dead simple to install: un-bolt the stock catches, and attach these in their place. They are virtually indistinguishable from the stock ones, and they seem quite a bit tighter (though this may be due to the stock ones having become distended over time). One thing I noted was that my stock catches had a washer between the nut and the bolt underneath the fender, and this part was not supplied with a washer. I kept and reused that washer when attaching this part as it appeared to provide a better contact surface for the nut against the underside of the fender.Pros: - Suitable replacement for stock hood catches - Ultra-simple bolt-on installation, required no drilling or tinkering or modification of any kind. - Replacement nut supplied with this catch is a nyloc nut, which I think will be beneficial for corrosion and vibration resistance -- a nice touchCons: - Footprint of the "bottom" of this catch (the part that sits flat against the top of the fender) appears to be very slightly smaller than the stock catches, which can cause a minor but discernable cosmetic problem (the paint underneath the stock catch will never have seen the light of day so may be a slightly different color and/or may be slightly rust-stained). - The plastic "fingers" on this part that actually press down on the hood-end of the catch seem skinnier and flimsier than the stock catch, and seemed like they might bend inwards rather than engaging the hood properly. I prodded them a little with my hand, though, and they seemed to be sound enough. If they fail I will update this review.

98 Jeep Wrangler
Bought 2 to replace the ones I broke when I painted my jeep. First one went on very easily. Second one I had to wedge a screw driver in to because the bolt came loos inside of the housing. I was able to ratchet it down but now it is rusting already. It’s a Jeep thing I guess….
